Aminosalicylic acid (C7H7NO3) (also known as p-aminosalicylic acid or 5-aminosalicylic acid) is an antibiotic and is used to treat tuberculosis. It has been use for over forty years in the treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBDs), where it has shown greater potency in Crohn's Disease. It is thought to act via NF-kB (Nuclear Factor Kappa B) inhibition and free radical scavenging.

Aminosalicylic acid is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether it will harm an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.

It has a molecular weight of 153.14. With heat p-aminosalicylic acid is decarboxylated to produce CO2 and m-aminophenol.
