Jeremy Laidler (born 5 August 1989) is an Australian rules football player in the Australian Football League, currently playing for the Carlton Football Club.
Playing career
Junior
Laidler played junior football for the Doutta Stars, and TAC Cup football for the Calder Cannons.[1] Laidler represented Vic Metro in the NAB AFL U18 Championships, and was the recipient of the Calder Cannons' best and fairest award for 2007.[2] He was recruited by the Geelong Football Club in the 2008 AFL Rookie Draft with its second selection (#32 overall).
Geelong
At Geelong, Laidler was switched from playing forward (where he had scored 25 goals in his season with the Cannons) to defence.[1] In 2009, he was promoted midseason to Geelong's senior list after some strong form in the VFL and a string of long term injuries in the backline allowed the Cats to make such a promotion.[3] He made his senior debut against the Brisbane Lions, but only played the one game for the year. He was elevated to the senior list for the 2010 season,[4] but again played only one senior game for the year. Laidler was traded at the end of the 2010 season, finishing with 2 AFL games and 50 VFL games for the Cats.[1][5]
Carlton
Laidler was traded to the Carlton Football Club during the 2010 AFL Trade Week, in a deal which saw Geelong receive a third round draft pick (#54 overall) and saw the clubs swap second round draft picks (Geelong finishing with #37 overall, and Carlton finishing with #42 overall).[6] Laidler made his debut for the Blues in the club's first round match against the Richmond Tigers.[7]
Laidler went on to play 8 games up until round 14,with soreness and a knee injury allowing him to miss 5 games. He then returned for the round 15 game against the Richmond Tigers.
