Colleen Patrick-Goudreau (born March 8, 1970 in Westfield, New Jersey) is an American writer, activist, public speaker [1] [2], and cooking instructor.[3] Having earned a master’s degree in English Literature from Seton Hall University,[4] Colleen uses her writing and communication skills to advocate veganism as a means by which to prevent cruelty to animals.

Professional Background

Patrick-Goudreau is the author of three very popular cookbooks, The Joy of Vegan Baking,[5] which won VegNews Magazine’s “Cookbook of the Year” Award, The Vegan Table,[6] and Color Me Vegan,[7] which was released December 2010. Her first non-cookbook, The Vegan's Daily Companion: 365 Days of Tips and Inspiration for Cooking, Eating, and Living Compassionately,[8] was released in 2011. These four books were published by Fair Winds Press. [9]

A fifth book entitled The 30-Day Vegan Challenge: The Ultimate Guide to Eating Cleaner, Getting Leaner, and Living Compassionately [10] is expected to be released August 23, 2011, by Random House/Ballantine Books.

Colleen also produces a podcast called "Vegetarian Food for Thought,"[11][12]including some video podcasts[13] and produced a cooking DVD, "Vegetarian Cooking with Compassionate Cooks," which grew out of her Oakland, California-based cooking classes.

Until 2011, Colleen had been a long-time columnist for VegNews Magazine with her popular column VegGuru.[14] She has appeared on The Food Network[15] and is a contributor to "Perspectives," the editorial program produced by her local NPR affiliate KQED-FM.[16] She also publishes two newsletters, "Food For Thought" and "Soup to Nuts."

Patrick-Goudreau has published dozens of articles and essays in a variety of publications, In addition, Colleen is a contributor to The Christian Science Monitor. [17]

Having been dubbed the Vegan Martha Stewart[18], Colleen has been profiled in a number of newspapers, magazines, and journals, including The Oregonian[19], Planet Green[20], and Vegan Nutritionista,[21] amongst many others.[22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42]

Colleen is an ardent supporter of rescued animal sanctuaries, such as Farm Sanctuary[43], and in many photographs she can be seen with animals she has come to love over the years.

Colleen was one of several people who provided information used in the writing of the book Striking at the Roots: A Practical Guide to Animal Activism (2008) by Mark Hawthorne.

Personal Background

Colleen first became vegan when she was 19, inspired by Diet for a New America[44] by John Robbins (author) and Slaughterhouse,[45] by Gail Eisnitz. [46]
