Sydney based band, Private Lives, was formed in 1981 and released its first EP, Pleas, in 1983. It went on to open the first Live at the Wireless for Triple J radio with its popular track, Pleas, later re-leased by RCA along with the album, Work. By the time Work was released the band had changed its name to The Private.

The founding members of Private lives were John Needham (guitar and vocals), Phil Munroe (bass), Don Brown (drums) and Andrew Garton (keyboards).
