Template:Barra and Vatersay Potato Competition An organised drinking event held on the Isle of Barra that is thinly disguised as an agriculturalcompetition(Guth Bharraigh, Voluntary Action Barra and Vatersay 28th August 2009). The event is given some credibility by inclusion of charitable donations though this is generally under duress (see Dohl Vickety). Instigated in 2005 as by local potato growers the competition raises money for local charities. Barra and Vatersay Potato Growers enter their home grown potatoes in the hope of glory, riches and honour but mainly for the pluggan. Winning entries are frequently grown in Vatersay where the winter nights are long. Winning entries rarely from Eoligarry where the winter nights aren't long enough. Competition is judged by a esteemed panel of experts Barra & Vatersay Potato Competition Judge.
