Nyctohylophobia is the fear of dark wooded areas or forests at nighttime.[1] It is not a generally-used medical term and is almost entirely confined to phobia word lists.

Most of the population goes camping with their family and friends but not everybody can do that or even think or dream of it. There is a phobia called Nyctohylophobia which is the fear of forests and wooded areas at night. This is, as are all phobias, an irrational fear which is likely to have begun if the person had a traumatic experience involving these areas at night, and woody areas that developed into Nyctohylophobia. They have the fear of being attack by a person in the woods or an animal.

The person can start having anxiety symptoms if they even think about the subject or hear someone talk about picnics, hikes or camping trips to the woods. They can begin to hyperventilate , become nauseated, dizzy, or shaky. They may even have a panic attack.

There is no medication to cure Nyctohylophobia. There are other ways to talk and see a therapist that can help you find out why you have Nyctohylophobia and how you can get over it.

Etymology

Nyctohylophobia comes from the Greek language, nycto- meaning night, hylo- meaning wood, and -phobia being an irrational fear.
