Spread over Candolim Beach, Sunburn has multiple stages with artists playing simultaneously from noon to 10 pm.
History
Sunburn Goa 2007
In 2007, Percept partnered with Nikhil Chinapa and organized the first International Dance Music Festival in Goa, India. Sunburn Goa 2007 was sponsored by [[Smirnoff[[ and took place on the 28th and 29th of December just at Candolim beach. In its first year Sunburn managed to attract the best international acts with Carl Cox, Above & Beyond and Axwell headlining the festival. Other acts included John 00 Fleming, Pete Gooding, DJ Pearl, Jalebee Cartel, Super 8 & Tab amongst many. Accommodating two stages with DJs playing simultaneously, Sunburn Goa2007 proved to be a godsend for trance and house music enthusiasts. Making Sunburn a lifestyle affair was the flea market which sold produce from world over as well as the global cuisine offered on venue. The festival was hosted by Nikhil Chinapa and Rohit Barker. The line-up announcement and early bird passes commenced during the end of October with sales picking up rapidly.
Sunburn Goa 2008
If SunburnGoa2007 was big, Sunburn Goa2008 was bigger. Feeding on its previous year’s success the festival was back despite the Mumbai 26/11 attacks which took place exactly a month prior to the festival. The festival was themed Electric Circus and sported two main stages. ‘Banyan Tree’ was the stage for Trance acts while ‘Circus Stage’ catered to House music aficionados. Additionally, the festival boasted a VIP stage, flea market along with newly incorporated beach volley ball courts. Having tied up with Defected Records in 2008, the world-renowned label monopolized a stage for a day with a wide range of quality house DJs such as Simon Dunmore, Shapeshifters, Copyright and percussionist Shovel playing. Headlining the festival were GMS, Gareth Emery and John 00 Fleming. The acts that graced the festival were Digital Blonde, Roger Shah, Pearl, Brute Force, Nawed Khan, Vachan Chinnappa, Jalebee Cartel, Sanjay Dutta, and Ma Faiza amongst many. The visuals were produced by Dan booth, Martin Robins, Vj Kaycee & Inferno. Sunburn Goa 2008 took place between the 27th and 29th of December at Candolim Beach Goa. The title sponsors of Sunburn Goa 2008 were Fly Kingfisher, Carlsberg and Force India. The line-up announcement and early bird passes commenced during the end of October with sales picking up rapidly.
Sunburn Goa 2009
Sunburn Goa2009, sponsored by XXX, was by far the biggest music festival with an unprecedented turn- out of over 22,000 fans. It also saw the launch of ‘After Dark’ parties which took place at club Butter from 10.30 pm until 5 am, making Sunburn a 24 hour festival. Sunburn brought to India for the first time, world # 1 DJ Armin Van Buuren who headlined the festival along with Latin House legend Roger Sanchez and John 00 Fleming. Sunburn’s line-up also included tech house star Sultan and trance ace Sander Van Doorn. Previously in 2008, Sunburn had tied up with Defected Records, but in 2009 Sunburn tied up with UK clubbing mammoth Gatecrashers. Lapped up by the festival goers were – Jalebee Cartel, DJ Pearl, Ma Faiza, Nawed Khan and Designer Hippies to name a few. Once again, the festival was hosted by Nikhil Chinapa and Rohit Barker. In addition to the previous year’s attractions, Sunburn Goa 2009 included a rock climbing wall and Thai foot masseurs for the indulgent festival goer.
Sunburn Goa 2010
Sunburn Goa 2010, took place on the 27th-29th of December at Candolim Beach. The festival sponsored by Tuborg an in association with XXX .The headliners of the 2010 festival were Ferry Corsten, Axwell and BT. Also showcasing their endowment were Sultan & Ned Shepard with Nadia Ali (Live), Richard Durand, GMS, Pete Gooding, Aly & Fila and a plethora of world renowned DJs such as Pearl, Ma Faiza, Sanjay Dutta etc.
For Sunburn loyalists, who cannot get enough by just attending the festival, Percept has designed the Sunburn Anthem Contest [2]. The SAC is held for potential audio and visual producers for a platform to fame. Those who participate in the visual category get an opportunity to make a visual for a B.R.E.E.D track which is then submitted to a panel of Judges.
The audio category is for those who think they have the creativity and expertise to make a fresh remix of Nadia Ali’s ‘Love Story’ which is the Anthem of the festival.
To make Sunburn more of a lifestyle experience rather than just a musical extravaganza, a fashion show was organized on the 27th of December at Club Butter. Sunburn passes went live on the 5th of November 2010 with the early bird passes and pre-booking sale passes being sold out in a record time of 22 minutes flat [3].
