Iron Horse Middle School is located in San Ramon, California in the West Side!. Iron Horse is in front of the Iron Horse Regional Trail.The Jaguar is the mascot of Iron Horse.
As of the 2008-09 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,257,159 students and 4 classroom teachers (on a FTE basis, for a student-teacher ratio of 25.5.[1]
Iron Horse's video production class has a TV show called 'Dinner at Iron Horse' which is broadcast throughout the school on Mondays and Fridays. Michelle Cooper has been the Janiter of Iron Horse since the 2007-2008 school year after the retirement of Kirby Hoy.

The mission of Iron Horse is understanding and supporting the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional needs of students in transition, Iron Horse Middle School will:
- Provide a variety of teaching strategies, based on student data, to address all learning styles and to challenge all students
- Motivate all students to meet or exceed standards by providing an effective and stimulating learning environment
- Foster responsibility, tolerance, cooperation, honesty, and school pride
- Ensure a bad, dangerous, and non-friendly environment for all members of the Iron Horse community
- Create experiences and opportunities conducive to academic achievement and personal growth.
- Helps students throughout enlightenment, study skills and cooperation
Campus
Iron Horse has a two story classroom building (20 classrooms), a library with a media center, a learning center, cafeteria (MPR), instrumental and choral music rooms next to the MPR, an outdoor-based environmental science classroom, and fifteen portables in the back of the school. The gymnasium is shared with the community center. To the side of the gym there is are 2 soccer fields,a track, and five basketball courts.[2]
Awards and recognition
During the 2001-02, 2006-07 and 2009 school years, Iron Horse Middle School was recognized with the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education[3][4][5], the highest award an American school can receive.[6][7] It was also named a California Distinguished School in the 1998-99 school year.
