The Regional Science High School for Region III is a high school in East Kalayaan, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Zambales province of the Philippines. It specializes in both science and math, mainly for academically strong adolescents. The school was established in 1994.

History

Regional Science High Schools were established in the Philippines pursuant to DECS Order No. 69. 1993.[1] The schools were built for above average ability students who have shown an aptitude in science and technology. These high schools take Science, Math and English at a higher level. The schools also have an enriched curriculum, undertaking research which is not available in mainstream schools.

Regional Science High School III, located in Central Luzon's Olongapo City, opened in June 1994. The school was originally located at Olongapo City National High School but after three years, the school relocated to the former American base at Subic bay Freeport Zone under the management of City Mayor Katherine Gordon and SBMA Chairman Richard J. Gordon.

Environment

Regional Science High School III has a very conducive and probably the most beautiful environment of all schools in Olongapo City. It is located in the one of the few remaining natural rainforests in the Philippines in Subic Bay Freeport Zone. The school buildings are abundantly surrrouded by grass, rocks, shrubs and trees, over the school fence is an off-limits forest.

Also, herbal and ornamental gardens were constructed by the by science students.

Other school facilities include a pavilion or "The Math Garden" which is a WiFi hotspot, a computer laboratory which contains more or less 40 computers and a multimedia room used for conducting classes and lectures with the aid of computer presentations.

The buildings used for the school were still the same structures as it was used as an elementary school during the American Regime, only some were modified for the better use of the school body.

Renovations

On July 29, 2008 by Danila P. Moncada, Principal III of RSHS III, announced the renovation of the basketball court to become a covered court that would be finished in 2009. But, it was delayed. According to the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) to be led by Atty. Alreuela Bundang-Ortiz on March 5, 2010, the covered court would be constructed next school year. The following school year, it was cancelled and planned the renovation of the school gymnasium instead.

The renovation took place from February to March 2011. It added more sound systems, transformed from storage room to control room, fixed the stage, re-painted the wall and floor, and fixed the ceiling and roof. So during the Grand Coronation of Mr. & Ms. RSHS III on March 18, 2011, Atty. Bundang-Ortiz announced more renovations in school gymnasium including state of the arts, and some others.
