Aubrey Aitken

William Aubrey Aitken (known as Aubrey;[1] 1911–1985) was the second Bishop of Lynn from 1972 until 1986[2]. Born into an ecclesiastical family[3] and educated at Norwich School and Trinity College, Oxford [4] he was ordained in 1935. After curacies at Tynemouth and Kingston, Jamaica he was successively the incumbent at Kessingland, Sprowston[5] and St Margaret’s King’s Lynn [6] before becoming Archdeacon of Norwich in 1961, a position he held until his elevation to the Episcopate. A keen yachtsman[7],he died in post at the age of 73[8].
