Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) was established by an Act of Parliament (No.25 of 20th March 2009). Presently CUTN is functioning in a temporary campus with an area of 55000 sq.ft. in Thiruvarur. The main campus with a total area of 550 acres is scheduled to be completed within the next 2 years.

Academics

In December 2009, the university was inaugurated by the then Minister of HRD Kapil Sibal . In July 2010, with six more newly established Central Universities, CUTN conducted a Common Entrance Test (known as CUCET 2010) and three more new courses viz. Integrated M.Sc. Courses in Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics were started.

Starting from the forthcoming academic year 2011 Madras School of Economics has been offering its M.Sc. programs in General Economics and Financial Economics as well as an Integrated five year course in economics in collaboration with the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN).
