Rabindra Bharati University is a university in Kolkata, India. It was founded on May 8, 1962, under the Rabindra Bharati Act of the Government of West Bengal in 1961, to mark the birth centenary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore. It is located at the Tagore family home, Jorasanko Thakur Bari.

The university offers undergraduate ad postgraduate programs in Performing Arts under the Faculty of Fine Arts, Visual Arts under the Faculty with same name, Humanities, Social Sciences and other subjects under the Faculty of Arts.

At the university's founding in 1962, it occupied the former home of Rabindranath Tagore. While two of the three faculties of the University, those of Fine Arts and Visual Arts, are still located there, when the Faculty of Arts was founded in 1976, it was located on a new campus at 56A, B. T. Road, Kolkata-50. The new campus was on the grounds of the "Emerald Bower," a mansion built by Harakumar Tagore, the poet's uncle. The mansion and its parklands, later acquired by the Government of West Bengal, became a complex of academic institutions among which this University has the central and larger share. The main administrative office is also situated at the Emerald Bower Campus.

The university was reconstituted in 1981 by the Rabindra Bharati Act, 1981.

Courses offered

Certificate courses, Diploma courses, Undergraduate Degree Courses, Postgraduate Degree Courses and Research/Doctoral-Level Courses.

Some of the other services which are provided by the University are the access to the database, photocopying services, information and reference service, inter-library loan and display of the new arrivals at the central library. The university now also provided post graduate degree as external student in its new Salt Lake Campus.

The Visual Arts Faculty offers both the graduate ( Four Year) and the postgraduate are courses of Painting, Sculpture, Applied Art, Graphics, History of Art and the Musicology department offers the postgraduate course. The department offers, the pre-research program and Ph.D. program. At the advanced level the study of computer for visual applications, like commuter graphics, digital photography, Multimedia courses under department of Applied Art help the students to be more adaptable to the Visual Industry and also help in Visual Research.

Plans

University is providing "User Education Programs" which are beneficial for the students. The university plans to make the central library and all other in-house functions fully automated.

It is normal death according to Post- Mortom Report. None of the Student and assistant professor of the Visual Arts department Surojit Chanda involved in the scuffle between them and Nandi. The honorable Calcutta High division bench released on bail Chanda based on the Post- Mortom Report. The acquisition of revolver is false! The police authority did not get any kind of arms( No seizure -list) . The Post- Mortom Report also did not indicate any External wounds in the body. It is a conspiracy against the University and Faculty of Visual Arts as well as Professor Chanda.
