A self described socialist, she ran for a seat in the Canadian House of Commons in the 1979 federal election, in the riding of Ottawa—Carleton, for the New Democratic Party. She finished in third, with 8,234 votes behind Jean-Luc Pépin of the Liberals who won, and Progressive Conservative incumbent Jean Pigott.
She (with Dr. Gerald Caplan) debated Objectivist philosophers Dr. John Ridpath and Dr. Leonard Peikoff, defending socialism against their advocacy of capitalism.
