- Two Ethiopians attend an ecclesiastical council at Florence, as part of the negotiations concerning a possible union of Coptic and Roman Catholic Christianity. This is the earliest recorded contact of the Ethiopian Church with Europe.

- The Trans Atlantic Slave Trade "commenses" when a group of Portugeuse Sailors landed on the West African Coast, kidnapping and taking a few Africans to Europe mostly Portugal and Spain. Columbus discovered The New World in 1492 and slaves from Africa were diverted to the Americas.
