Pixar Animation Studios however, will not be producing the film. Instead, it will be produced by DisneyToon Studios. It is set to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the Spring of 2013.[2]
Plot
Dusty lives in the small town of Propwash Junction, and the single-prop agriculture plane could not be further from the lean, mean, trophy-winning machines he idolizes - and his co-workers remind him constantly. His mentor Skipper is convinced that Dusty has the engine to compete with the best, and helps encourage him to pursue his lifelong dreams. But if Dusty wants to make his dreams a reality, he'll need to push himself further than he ever imagined. With the help and support of a crew of all-new and hilarious characters, Dusty wings his way into the biggest challenge of his life.[1]
Voice cast
- Jon Cryer: Dusty Crophopper[3]
- Stacy Keach: Skipper[4]
- Brad Garrett: Chug[5]
- Carlos Alazraqui: El Chupacabra[6]
Production
Although Pixar isn't producing the film John Lasseter will be one of the producers.[3]
Lasseter had this to say about the film:
We had such a great time exploring the world of Cars over the course of two films, so it seemed only natural for us to see where our imaginations would take us in a film where planes were the main characters. By expanding the Cars world, Planes gave us a whole new set of fun-filled situations and a great opportunity to introduce some fantastic new characters. The team at DisneyToon Studios has done such an amazing job creating a heartfelt story filled with great comedy, adventure, and emotion. I know audiences are going to love taking off into the wild blue yonder with these daredevil characters, as they experience a whole new kind of animated adventure.[2]
On August 20, 2011 at the D23 Expo it was announced that Jon Cryer will be the voice of the main protagonist Dusty.[3]
Trivia
