Modibo Maiga (born September 3, 1987 in Mali) is a Malian footballer. He currently plays for Sochaux. He is a forward who can play as a winger.

Maiga began his career with Stade Malienin his home nation but soon moved to Morroccan powerhouse Raja CA Casablancawhere he spent his late teenage years,recruiter of MUC 72, allows him to join the MUC 72 in January 2007 as a six-month loan with an option to purchase, then it is evolving at that time under the colors of Raja Casablanca with whom he won several awards including the Throne the Cup Arab Champions League. He trains and plays at first with the CFA. For his first game in the CFA, he managed a double. Without playing with the first team, he signed a two-year contract with the Le Mans at the end of the loan, and continues thereafter.

Le Mans

Maiga made a move to Ligue 1 side Le Mans in the year of his 20th birthday. Playing alongside Ivory Coast star Gervinho Maiga established himself as a top prospect in French football. Despite Le Mans suffering relegation to Ligue 2 Maiga was hot property due to 15 goals in 88 games. Maiga consequently signed a four year contract with Sochaux until 2014 and took the number 15 shirt.

Sochaux

During the 2010/11 campaign Maiga struck up a 30 goal partnership with Ideye Brown each scoring 15 goals. Maiga and Brown were assisted by playmakeing duo Marvin Martin and Ryad Boudebouz as Sochaux qualified for the Europa League,In 23 Ligue 1 matches, he scored 10 goals and with Ideye (10 goals each) they represent a little over half goals from FC Sochaux (20 of 39). At the 31st day, he scored a quick double at the 81st and 86th minutes against AS Caen FC allowing his team to win 3-2.

Friday, August 12, he announced to his club that he would never play again in the colours of FC Sochaux because he wished to be transferred to Newcastle United FC. He refused to play against Stade Malherbe de Caen and AS Nancy but then did play against Metallist Kharkiv and FC Lorient. He and teammate Kevin Anin were removed from the first team after disappearing. However, on Maiga's return to the first team he scored four goals in three games.

On 18 October, several newspapers, including The Daily Telegraph and L'Equipe, reported that Maiga was close to a deal to move to Newcastle in the January transfer window.[1]

International career

Maiga is a star of the Mali national football team and wore the number 10 shirt at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. However, on September 3, 2011, he did not appear in Mali's vital 2012 African Cup of Nations qualification match against Cape Verde.
