Compatible Toner Cartridge
A Compatible toner cartridge is a printer consumable used on a laser printer to create various prints such as text files, images, and other materials.[1] It is typically made by a third party printer supply maker which makes the product differently from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplies.[2] Most of the time, it is regarded as a generic laser toner cartridge since its manufacturers would normally claim that it can create the same high quality outputs made by the original cartridges but at a cheaper cost.
Process
A compatible laser toner cartridge is produced using brand new printer cartridge parts and toner. The production process will typically involve multiple steps to ensure that the product will maintain a good quality. The first thing done is to inspect the raw materials that will be used to create the toner cartridge. These may include drums, rollers, blades, and other needed parts. The empty containers are sorted to make sure that only the best will be used. When there are items that cannot be used for the production, these are disassembled and later recycled.
The cleaning stage is then done on the cartridges that have passed inspection. After this, the filling of toner is made using an automated machine that ensures the right amount of printer toner supplied in a cartridge. The new toner cartridges are now ready for sealing, assembling, testing, and packaging. Before finally being made available for the customers, a quality control stage is done.[3]
Benefits
The main benefit that a printer user could get from a compatible laser toner is the savings on the price. This generic printer cartridge is known to be cheaper from the original printer supply by 50-70% making it an option for those who want to cut down their expenses. Since this type of cartridge is normally sold online, it also provides convenience for the shoppers. Some stores would even offer free shipping or added discounts for items bought in bulk. Depending on the printer supply store, there would normally be a money-back guarantee and return policy to secure the customer's shopping.
Common Issues
There are issues that have been hurled on compatible printer supplies which have been repeatedly answered by the manufacturers themselves.
A common one would be the damage that this printer supply could do to the printer and to its warranty. This has been proven to be a myth since the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act has already stated that “No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the Commission if:
1. The warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted products will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and
2. The commission finds that such a waiver is in the public best interest.
This ensures every printer user that he keeps the warranty of his machine even when he supplies it with compatible printer cartridges.[original research?]
Another myth that has been made about generic cartridges is that these create poor quality printing which has been falsified by printing tests done by experts.[citation needed]
