Al Jazeera Balkans (AJB) is a 24-hour international news television station launched by Al Jazeera on 11 November 2011 at 1800 CET. The station broadcasts in Serbo-Croatian 6 hours daily with Al Jazeera English programmes broadcast the remainder of the broadcast day. AJB is a sister channel of the Arabic-language Al Jazeera.

The station broadcasts news analysis and features as well as documentaries, live debates, current affairs, business, technology, and sports.

History

On 22 September 2010, Al Jazeera purchased a broadcast station in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.[1] The channel began broadcasting as Al Jazeera on 11 November 2011.

Audience and programming

According to a report from the Associated Press, "Media experts say they hope the broadcaster will offer objective news to a public that was exposed for two decades to local media heavily influenced by politics.[2] The station plans to have correspondents in Podogorica, Priðtina, Mostar and Banja Luka who will report in the local languages. As well, the station will have reporters in based in Washington, D.C., London, Berlin, Vienna, Moscow, Istanbul and Jerusalem by utilizing the resources of the current Al Jazeera bureaus around the world. The station will serve viewers in Bosnia-Hercegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro. [3]
