Hydro-, or hydr- before a vowel, is an English prefix that indicates either water (e.g. hydroelectric), liquid (e.g. hydrodynamics), or hydrogen (e.g. hydrochloride). The term comes from the Greek hudro-, hudr-, from hudōr (meaning water).
