Rupesh Paul (born April 25, 1979) is an Indian film director, screenwriter and poet, hailing from Kerala, India. Rupesh distinguishes himself a Poet, Journalist, Novelist, Writer, Film Director, Magazine Columnist and Critic. He lays bare a controversial stature in the cultural milieu of Kerala.
Early years
Rupesh paul was born on April 25, 1979, at Cherthala in Alappuzha district, Kerala, to M.C Paul, a Chemical Engineer with UB group and Rita Paul, a Physics Lecturer. He completed his high school (1995) and junior college (1997) from St. Joseph’s model boys’ school and St. Thomas college, Trichur, respectively. He graduated from the University of Madras in Computer Engineering in the year 2001.
Early Writings
He started composing poems at a young age of ten. His poems were published since 1990, in "Mathrubhumi balapankthi” (then editor being Kunhunni Mash), a recurrent column for children in the well-known Malayalam weekly---Mathrubhumi.
In 1998, he won the prestigious Mathrubhumi award for the best young poet in Malayalam. This served as a turning point, as we see a more somber, matured poet post this. He won the second accolade for the Malayala Manorama story writing contest.
The poem 'Mayiru' written by Rupesh Paul, published in the much-read Malayalam magazine 'Vayana'. evoked a good deal of censure and controversy among the young poets and literary critics.'Mayiru' is a colloquial swear word which signifies ‘pubic hair'.
Rupesh Paul published his first anthology of poems in Malayalam- “Penkutti Oru Raashtramaanu” (“A Girl, a nation it is”)in 1988 (published by DC Books[1]. It became an unprecedented success that the second edition was brought out in 30 days.It bagged the Changampuzha Award for the Best Young Poet. [2]

He is also credited with the first cyber venture in Malayalam with his short story titled “Drakulayude Ezhaamathe Vadhu” (Seventh Bride of Dracula).
He wrought, owned and managed the first ever e-book in Indian vernacular languages: “Mashithandu.com”

Early Career
The journalist Rupesh joined Malayala Manorama , one of the leading newspapers in India, when he was 22 and worked as a Sub-editorfrom 2001 to 2005.
He wrote Sunday cover stories of Malayala Manorama, a leading newspaper in India for a protracted sum of time, which includes one national exclusive: revelations about the death of the naxalite leader Mathiyazhagan.[7]} He authored numerous scoops counting the investigative reports on the deaths of Azhikodan Raghavan, the former Communist Party of India (Marxist)leader and Nandita, the Malayalam poet.[8]}
He worked with India Today, as a senior correspondent from 2006 to 2008.

My Mother's Laptop (2008)
My Mother's Laptop is Rupesh's debut Indian feature film. It is one of the most critically acclaimed Malayalam movies in the recent times. 'Laptop or My Mother's Laptop is a 2008 Malayalam movie by Rupesh Paul starring Suresh Gopi and Padmapriya Janakiraman. This movie is based on a popular short story 'Parudheesa Nashtam' by Subhash Chandran.'
The Temptation Between My Legs (2008)
This is movie essentially made in monologues. This movie was denied Censor Board Certificate.
You can't step twice into the same river (2008)
"An ambitious killer gets his first assignment. He aims the target. Target aims him back.Who will be real target?". This four minutes movie runs around the above mentioned theme.
Mrigam (2010)
A movie with the "Muthanga" [9]} tribal-land struggle as the focal point. This half an hour movie is made in Adiya tribal language.
Pithavum Kanyakayum (2010)
This movie made its premiere in the Cannes festival, 2010. The movie features M. G. Sasi, the director of much famed Adayalangal as the hero and is of 90 minutes duration.

The Secret Diaries of Monalisa (2011)
The Secret Diaries of Monalisa is Rupesh's first international feature film. Entirely shot in UK , Italy and France, the movie is under post production.[10]}. The story and screenplay of the movie is done by the director himself. The movie unfolds the real secret behind the intriguing smile of DaVinci's Monalisa.
Saint Dracula 3D (2011)
Saint Dracula is an upcoming 3D movie by Rupesh Paul. Produced by BizTV Network - the producers of Dam 999. ‘Saint Dracula’ becomes the first ever stereoscopic 3D film to be made on the story of Dracula.[11]
Saint Dracula 3D is registered with the Motion Pictures Association of America.
It was premiered at the American Film Market in California on November 2, 2011. [12]}
"My Dracula is not the archetypal king of the vampires, but a saint," says Rupesh. "An ardent lover, he sacrifices his immortality to his ladylove as a wedding gift. In the original myth, he may be vicious, but in my film, he is the catastrophic lead of a love story.",[13] , says Rupesh.
The film has been shot at Liverpool and Wales in UK. Frenchman Francois Coppey does the camera, while the stereography has been done by Julian Crivelli. Sohan Roy, director of Hollywood film Dam 999 is the project designer.

New Projects
Rupesh Paul’s upcoming project Kamasutra3D is a period movie based on a sex manual written by arch-poet Kalyana Malla, related to the Lodi dynasty, which ruled Delhi from 1451 to 1526. Malla wrote the script in honour of Lad Khan, son of Ahmed Khan Lodi.
The original work was translated by Richard Francis Burton in 1885 and was published as Ananga Ranga.
“3D appears the best format to portray classic erotica, but it was hardly experimented till recently. It had remained as a tool to give the biggest jolt in horror movies. In the film, we are trying to give an extra dimension to the sexual positions described in the ancient treatise on the art of love, through the 3D format” Rupesh said, in an interview with New Indian Express.[16]
His short story ““Drakulayude Ezhaamathe Vadhu” has been developed into a novel, "Saint Dracula" in 2010. The recent motion picture, Saint Dracula, directed by Rupesh himself [17], is a cinematic adaptation of the same.
An English novel titled “The Girls of Our Times”, the much related memoirs of his love-life, is on the anvil.[18]
