Jordan Amelia Corey (born September 28, 1990) is an independent Pop / R&B artist from California, exclusively utilizing social media to launch her music. Her San Francisco Bay Area-based company began and continues to operate as a grassroots movement that engages in the latest social media marketing techniques.
Early childhood
Corey is a San Francisco Bay Area native. She is the youngest of two daughters of Toby Corey, co-founder of USWeb, and Susan Corey.
Throughout her childhood, Corey was extremely shy. In an attempt to have her and her sister explore their “artistic identities,” their parents enrolled them in classical piano lessons. That same year, her mother pushed her to audition for an elementary school play, where Corey fell in love with music and the stage.
Musical theater
Corey’s love for the stage grew beyond her first audition. She went on to perform in all of her elementary and middle school plays, portraying “Snoopy” in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and “Ellie Greenwich” in Leader of the Pack, among many other roles.[1]
While attending Los Gatos High School, Corey ventured into outside theater programs, including the Children’s Musical Theater in San Jose (CMTSJ), recognized as one of the most prestigious children’s musical theaters in the United States.[2][3] There, Corey landed lead and feature roles in over a dozen shows, including Les Misérables, The Wiz, Leader of the Pack, The King and I, and Jekyll & Hyde.[4][5] At 17 years old, she was the first female to ever win the Brian Alfred King Acting Award in CMTSJ history.
CMTSJ further fueled her musical identity as she began writing music in her early teens. Music writing began through poetry. Corey wrote numerous poems throughout middle school and high school, culminating in her first song, “Spinnin’ Around,” written when she was just 14 years old. Corey soon began performing in talent shows, where she sang original songs – “Thinkin’ About You” was her first original performance, at 15 years old.
Transition into music
At 16, Corey formed theJOEband, a classic rock cover band that won Clear Channel’s, 98.5 KFOX Last Band Standing competition in 2007, jumpstarting a career of live performances around the Bay Area.[6]
In 2008, Corey entered University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). There, she was the lead singer of SoulMinded, a soul/reggae/funk band that performed around the Santa Barbara and LA area. With SoulMinded, she performed at UCSB's Extravaganza 2010 – an all-day music festival for the Santa Barbara community. Corey played alongside Drake, Chromeo, Super Mash Bros., and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.[7]
In August 2009, after her first year of college, Corey began recording her first 7 song EP with notable producers and songwriters in LA, such as Stereotypes (producers), Brandon Howard, Stacy Barthe, Corey Chorus and Steve Morales. The EP is currently in its social media marketing phase.
