Template:Spanish name 2 José Ignacio Garmendia Mendizábal (born 4 April 1960 in Villabona, Gipuzkoa) is a retired Spanish footballer who played as a goalkeeper.

Football career

During his career, Garmendia played solely for Basque club SD Eibar, in a career which spanned 20 years. He stayed with the team as it played consecutively in the nation's fourth, third and second divisions, amassing 322 league matches in the latter category.

On 17 April 1988, in a third level match against Pontevedra CF, Garmendia scored from his goal, and Eibar would also promote at the season's end.[1] He retired ten years later, only having been second-choice precisely in his last season, with the club always maintaining its second division status; he collected two Ricardo Zamora Trophy awards in the process.
