Rizzle Kicks are a Brithop duo from Brighton, consisting of Jordan "Rizzle" Stephens (born 25 January 1992), and Harley "Sylvester" Alexander-Sule (born 23 November 1991). Their debut album, Stereo Typical, was released on 31 October 2011.

Background

Both Stephens and Alexander-Sule went to The BRIT School when Alexander-Sule began singing over one of Stephens' tracks and both realised that their styles fit together. At the time, Stephens was completing his mixtape, both were bickering over samples of some of their favourite artists when they officially became Rizzle Kicks. As a newly formed duo they began making their own music videos with a friend in Leicester. In an interview in August 2011 the duo stated, amongst other things, that they are Brighton & Hove Albion FC season ticket holders for the 2011/12 season at their new home in the American Express Community Stadium. They have been pictured at various home and away games [citation needed]. Jordan (Rizzle) & Harley (Sylvester) were both students at the Audio Active hiphop foundation project, where they attended rap workshops by Hinesy Hines, who makes a cameo as the trumpet dealer in their video for "Down with the Trumpets".

From Rizzle Kicks website:

" Technically, Rizzle Kicks was founded in about 1996, when both members, in their miniature form, used to play together round Rizzle's auntie's house. It wasn't until eight years later that the pair reunited after both moving to Brighton and facing each other head-on in a Sunday league football match. Four years later, they ended up going to the same college and one day Rizzle got Sylvester to 'Lalala' all over a track. They soon realised how nicely their styles fitted together. Rizzle was just finishing off his own mixtape, rapping over samples of some of their favourite artists (Gorillaz, Lily Allen, Arctic Monkeys etc) when they officially became Rizzle Kicks.

As a newly formed duo, they started to hustle for beats from local producers and started making their own music videos with a friend of theirs.

Having finally been able to get into a proper studio with some talented producers, Rizzle Kicks are now working on their album, a mixture of pop and hip hop incorporating the fun elements of the old school hip-hop era circa 1988–92. "

Music career

2011–present: Stereo Typical

The duo released a promotional single, "Miss Cigarette", in December 2010, before releasing their debut single, "Prophet (Better Watch It)", in May 2011. The track was initially offered as a free download from the band's official website, before being officially released on iTunes. Their second single, "Down With the Trumpets", was released soon afterwards, entering the UK Singles Chart at #84 in June 2011 and going on to eventually peak at #8 in September 2011.[1] The duo soon featured on the number one single "Heart Skips a Beat" by Olly Murs', which was released on 21 August 2011, entering the chart at #1 on 28 August 2011.[2] Soon after the release of "Heart Skips A Beat", the duo announced the release of their debut album, Stereo Typical, which they described as including "a mixture of pop and hip-hop, incorporating the fun elements of the old school hip-hop era circa 1988–92."[3] The album was released on 31 October 2011, preceded by lead single "When I Was a Youngster" a week earlier.
