Rajagopal Muthukumaraswamy

R.Muthukumaraswamy Rajagopal Muthukumaraswamy is well known Tamil Scholar. He is in touch with elderly Tamil scholars for more than 6 decades. As a writer he has contributed in translating famous English Classics such as Kadathapatta David David Copperfield, Wakefield Pathariyar The Vicar of Wakefield, Karumani Malar Black Tulip, Thayathu 'Talisman" of famous author Sir Walter Scott, Sirumi Eithi Heidi written by Swiss author Johanna Spyri, Indira Priyadharshani & 1008 Commemoration Bibliography. He has also compiled a Bibliography of Tamil books jointly with Dr.S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Movement of India.

He is the Managing Director of South India Saiva Siddhanta Works Publishing Society Ltd., popularly known as Kazhagam. Apart from publishing old manuscripts and rare books, the Kazhagam is running a library Maraimalai Adigal Library. He hails from a family devoted to Tamil language. Padma Shri V.Subbiah pillai is his father-in-law. Padma Shri V.Subbiah pillai is the younger brother of Shri V.Thiruvarangam Pillai who is the son-in-law of well known Pure Tamil Movement Tamil scholar "Maraimalai Adigal". This strong relationship made Padma Shri V.Subbiah pillai to call himself as Thamarai Chelvar V.Subbiah pillai.

R.Muthukumaraswamy born in 1936(Dec 12) had his education in Madras(Chennai) - his birth place. After graduation in 1957 he got trained in Library Science and started his career as Librarian of Maraimalai Adigal Library. It is considered as Mecca to Tamil Research Scholars. Swamy has helped more than 500 scholars to prepare their Thesis for Ph.D., M.Litt., & M.Phil., degree.

In 1980 he joined as the General Manager of the publishing society and raised to Managing Director in the year 1983. He is the editor of the Tamil literary Magazine the SenTamizh Selvi.
