Talk:Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis
Proposed Merger with Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law
I fully agree that this article should eventually be merged with "Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law" article. However, as one of the largest contributors to the current "Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law" article (I wrote much of that predecessor article, although I did so anonymously before creating a Wikipedia username), and as the creator of the current "Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis" transitional article, I request and propose that the current "Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis" transitional article remain a distinct article for at least several more weeks, and perhaps longer, depending on the thoughts of others.
Just to summarize the history, the current "Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law" article had been titled "Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis" before the school's name changed in early December of 2012. After the school's name changed, the article was edited slightly (mostly by me) and moved to become the "Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law" article. The "Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis" title was set to redirect to the "Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law" article (now the "main article"). I recently removed the redirect for the "Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis" title and created a new short article using the old title. The new article, as you can read, focuses almost entirely on the fact that the school was renamed. The new article also provides (in its first sentence) a link to the main article.
My hope is that the new "Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis" article, which has an extremely limited focus, will serve as a temporary transitional article that will help educate readers regarding the name change. (This approach will also help web-crawlers in indexing the new main article, but I'll skip the details of that benefit for now.) So to reiterate, I hope that this transitional article will remain independent of the main article for a limited time, after which limited time the transitional article will be merged with the "Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School" of Law article.
While my creation of a temporary "transitional" article may be somewhat unorthodox, I nonetheless maintain that my approach does not run afoul of any established Wikipedia rules. And even if my approach does runs afoul of any established Wikipedia rules, please consider that we at Wikipedia are encouraged to ignore all rules that prevent us from improving or maintaining Wikipedia. Here, I believe that my use of a temporary transitional page improves Wikipedia in that it is helpful to human and machine readers of both the transitional article and the main article.
I very much appreciate your consideration.
Thanks!
