Nisrin Barwari

Nisrin Mustafa Sidiq Barwari (born 1967) is the current Iraqi Minister for Municipalities and Public Works, and a member of the Transitional National Assembly elected on January 30 2005. Of Kurdish descent, she was previously a minister in the Irbil-based Kurdish regional government. Berwari graduated from Baghdad University in 1991, with an undergraduate degree in architectural engineering and urban planning. She also holds a graduate degree in public policy and management from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. She has also been an administrator for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

In the first post-war interim cabinet in 2003 Barwari became Minister for Public Works, then the only woman in the cabinet. She has retained the position through subsequent changes of government. On 28 March 2004, she survived an assassination attempt near Mosul, in which three of her bodyguards were killed.

In September 2004, she married Ghazi_Mashal_Ajil_al-Yawer, then the President of Iraq.
