Stephen Anthony McPartland[1] (born 9 August 1976)[2] is a British Conservative Party politician. He was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stevenage at the 2010 general election.
Education and early career
McPartland is the former Director of Membership for British American Business, the leading US Chamber of Commerce, based in London. He is a trustee of The Living Room, a local charity offering a wide range of free addiction treatment services and a volunteer speaker for Asthma UK.[3]
McPartland studied for his first degree in History at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 1997.[4] He studied for a MSc in Technology Management at Liverpool John Moores University the following year.[4]
Political career
McPartland was elected to the House of Commons as Member of Parliament for Stevenage in the 2010 general election by a majority of 3,578.[5] He is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on asthma [6] and has a keen interest in local education, health and the NHS. [7]
In August 2010, Stephen McPartland launched the Campaign for a Radiotherapy Unit at Lister Hospital with the local newspaper.[8]
Parliamentary Career
Stephen’s political interests include: health care (particularly cancer treatment and respiratory diseases), education, science and technology including satellite technology, international trade, policing, addiction treatment, urban regeneration, and government procurement of IT projects[9].
Stephen represents his interests in health, education, and science and technology, in Parliament through his involvement as a member of:
- Science and Technology Select Committee[9]
- 2011 Education Bill Committee and participated in all stages of the Bill’s passage through Parliament[10]
- All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs)[11] , including:
- Chairman, Furniture Industry APPG
- Chairman, Asthma APPG
- Vice-Chairman, Parliamentary Space Committee
- Vice-Chairman, Child and Youth Crime APPG
- Treasurer, Pneumonia APPG
- EURIM Knowledge and Economy Working Group, Chairman[12]
In his first term as MP, Stephen has secured over £250 million from the government for infastructure investment in Stevenage for housing, schools and the Lister hospital, which will benefit residents of the constituency and the surrounding areas. He is leading a campaign for a satellite Radiotherapy Unit at the Lister Hospital. Jobs and the economy are vitally important to Stephen; he works closely with North Hertfordshire College and spends time with local businesses[13] .
Stephen firmly believes the key to making a real difference is listening to local residents and businesses and working hard to improve the local community[13] .

Stephen is an avid reader, a volunteer speaker for Asthma UK and a football fan, often watching Stevenage play. Stephen is a Trustee of the Living Room Charity, which offers a wide range of free addiction treatment services and a Patron of the Turn the Tide Charity. Both are locally-based charity organisations founded in Stevenage.

Stephen was born in Liverpool on 9th August 1976. He lives in Stevenage with his wife Emma who is a teacher at a local primary school.
