Latvian National Theatre
The Latvian National Theatre (Template:Lang-lv) is a theatre located in Riga, Latvia. The current managing director of the theatre is Viesturs Rieksts and the artistic director is Edmunds Freibergs.
Building of theatre was build in 1899-1902 by the project of architect Augusts Reinbergs. It became Riga 2nd. (Russian) Theatre. It worked until First World War. In 1917 first shows in latvian language were held in theatre. In 18th. November 1918 Latvian independence was declared in theatre building.
The Latvian National Theatre was founded 30 November, 1919, just over a year after Latvia declared independence 18 November, 1918. The creative program was authored by Jānis Akurāters, a Latvian writer, then head of the Art department of the Ministry of Education.
