Jimmy Boubou Kébé (born 19 January 1984) is a France-born Malian footballer who plays for Reading F.C. as a winger.
Club career
Reading
On 16 January 2008, Kébé agreed to join Reading, but his then club US Boulogne initially refused to let him end his season-long loan early.[2] On 28 January 2008, Reading announced that Kébé had signed a 2½ year contract with them, moving for an undisclosed fee.[3]
He made his debut for Reading as a substitute, coming on for John Oster late into a 1–0 away defeat to Everton on 9 February 2008 and should have opened his Reading account minutes later.[4] He scored his first Reading goal in the 1–2 home defeat against Southampton on the 22 November 2008.[5] On the 6 December 2008 he was sent off for the first time in his Reading career for aiming an elbow towards Barnsley defender Dennis Souza.[6]
Kébé has since extended his contract until the summer of 2012.[7] 2010 saw an up-turn in Kébé's goal-scoring form, notching up 13 goals in the Championship in the 2010 calendar year.[8] On 21 August 2010, Kébé played his 100th game for Reading, appearing in a 1–1 draw with Nottingham Forest at the Madejski Stadium.
The 2011-12 season saw a further development in Kebe's position at Reading, with a well-publicized dispute over his contract. Having shown himself to be one of Reading's key players in the 2010/11 Playoff push, the fans of the club were eager to see him sign a new long term contract to ward off interest from other clubs such as Leicester City[9] as his contract was at the time due to run out at the end of the 2011-12 season. However, fans grew anxious with Kebe's seeming reluctance to sign a new contract, an issue that divided fans due to his worse form than the previous season. However, it soon became clear that Kebe wanted to stay at the club, but was reluctant to sign a two year deal rather than the three year deal he wanted, a deal that Reading could not afford to pay, despite being willing to make him one of their highest earners[10]. This ongoing contract saga continued into the new year, with Reading manager Brian McDermott becoming increasingly resigned to the possibility of losing his prized winger[11]. On the 5 January 2012, it was confirmed that Reading had offered Kebe a new contract for the three years that he wanted.[12]. On January 24th 2012, Jimmy Kebe signed a new contract with Reading until the summer of 2014. He celebrated signing the new deal by changing his name by deed poll to Jimmy-LAD Kebe, and spending the afternoon running up and down Friar Street in nothing but his Reading shirt loudly broadcasting how he feared he would have been victimised for wearing socks and forced to live in a council house had he taken his football services to West Ham.
International career
He was part of the Mali football team in the 2004 Summer Olympics, finishing top of Group A, but losing to Italy 1–0 (aet) in the next round.
