The Tutong language, also known as Tutong 2, is a language spoken by 16,600 people in Brunei.[1] It is the main langauge of the Tutong people, the majority ethnic group in the Tutong District of Brunei. It is an Austronesian language, part of the Dusunic languages group spoken in Brunei and the neighbouring Malaysian state of Sabah.

Vocabulary

Tutong langguage has their own dialect which sound a bit like in a middle of France and Germany. Some of daily practise words are such:

  • Mian ( mee- yan) : Eat
  • Jayi ( Ja- yee) : Me
  • Jiyu ( Jee - you) : You
  • Lawu ( La - woo) : Hot
  • Puta ( Pu - Ta)  : Fish
  • Turis ( Too-rist) : Woman
  • Laie ( La- Yi)  : Man
