Cartoon Network is an upcoming Canadian English language Category B specialty channel that will primarily broadcast animation programming. It is expect to launch sometime in 2012.[1][2] It will be based on the U.S. Cartoon Network, which launched on October 1, 1992. Like its American counterpart, it will broadcast the adult-oriented programming block Adult Swim, from 9:00PM to 6:00AM.[1]
The channel is expected to be wholly owned by Teletoon Canada Inc, a 50/50 partnership between Astral Media and Corus Entertainment, with the Cartoon Network brand in use through a licensing agreement with Turner Broadcasting System, the owners of the U.S.-based Cartoon Network. The channel is expected to be available in both standard definition and high definition from launch.
Programming
Despite of Teletoon, which broadcasts some of Cartoon Network's original shows, the channel will include most of its programming from the U.S. Cartoon Network. The following is a list of shows that has been announced to broadcast on it:
- The Amazing World of Gumball[1]
- Adventure Time[1] (Note: Aired on Teletoon in 2011)
- Regular Show[1]
Adult Swim
Cartoon Network will be carrying the "Adult Swim" block, despite of the "Teletoon at Night" block, which broadcasts some Adult Swim's original series. Adult Swim will be broadcasting nighty from 9:00PM to 6:00AM when Cartoon Network launches in Canada.[1]
