Steward Health Care is the second largest healthcare system in New England, founded by the Caritas Christi Health Care system in 2011.[1] Steward Health Care has 14,000 employees, over 1,700 hospital beds, 2,500 doctors, 2,000 nurses, 80,000 annual inpatient discharges, 250,000 annual emergency department visits and 55 communities served.[1] Steward Health Care is led by President/CEO Ralph de la Torre, MD and located in Boston. It is currently owned by the private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management.[citation needed]
