Puliangudi (புளியங்குடி) is a municipality in Tirunelveli district of the Indian State Tamilnadu. It is located in the foothills of the Western Ghats. 45 km south from Rajapalyam and 30 km north of Coutrallam on NH 208 from Madurai to Kollam. Nearby towns include Sankarankovil (16 km), Kovilpatti (45 km), Tenkasi (30 km), Kadayanallur (12 km)

Puliangudi is also known as "Lemon City",-Maa Nagar due to varieties of lemon species cultivated around Puliangudi and its high contribution to the town's Agri-business led economy.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Puliyangudi had a population of 60,142. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Puliyangudi has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 54%. In Puliyangudi, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
