Comments

Regarding the trivia section tag. Baseball trivia, and sports trivia in general are different than trivia about other topics. Trivia is kind of a time honored part of being a fan. While I understand and appreciate the general stylistic considerations that ask that articles integrate trivia. This seems to me to be an unthinking application of the tag. On the other hand, I don't think it's impossible to integrate the material into the article, but I would just like the question asked as to whether this is an appropriate editorial position.Jabot the Scrob 23:03, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1996 World Series

Eight. Only fifteen plate appearances. You'll also notice that he did not play in the 1996 postseason, as he wasn't on the roster. Whether they gave him a physical ring or not for that sip of coffee, I don't know. – Muboshgu (talk) 02:13, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

According to Yankees.com [1] He was a five time World Series champion and seven time AL champion. The special report covering this story on the Yes Network and MLB Network called him a 5 Time WS champ and a 7 time AL champ. I think the page should be changed to reflect his accomplishments. Whether he was on the post-season roster or not is irrelevant. He was recognized as a champion of that team and took photos of him yesterday in front of the five World Series trophies. Well if that's your criteria for then I can't much argue with that. I will say I still object to it because it is flawed based on the recognition he has received from the Yankees organization and MLB as a five time champion. Obviously we can get into a whole range of hypotheticals but say Posada eventually made it to the Hall of Fame and his plaque included 5 time WS champion, would you still deny that recognition now that MLB, the New york Yankees, and the Hall of Fame make that distinction? The criteria are not for me to decide. I tried adding Nady and Wang to the 2009 Yankees roster template in the wake of that World Series, only to be told then that they shouldn't be added because they weren't on the roster due to injury. If you want to discuss the criteria, I suggest bringing it to a wider audience at WT:BASEBALL, where it can be discussed by a larger community than those watching this particular article. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:57, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Catcher

Coming into today, he has played 1,573 games at catcher, 170 games as DH, and 39 games at first base. It's not even close. Calling him a first baseman or DH is not accurate in the context of his entire career. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:43, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Recentism

In expanding this article to talk about the 2011 season, I did lead this article to recentism. In fairness, I have this on my short list of pages I want to work on to get to GA status. I want to improve the earlier sections of his career. Any help is appreciated. Designated hitter

I added into the infobox that Posada was not just a catcher, but also a designated hitter. However, just 2 minutes later, it was reverted. Rather than make an edit war out of it, I decided to discuss it here. Anyways, I think it should be noted in the infobox because he spent an entire season almost exclusively playing DH. His primary position was catcher, but he spent an entire season playing a position other than his primary position. An entire season! In a case like this, I honestly think it's worth noting in the infobox. It's obviously not worth it to note that he played some games as a first baseman, because played very few games at first base, and it was never for a long period of time. But for an entire season, he played a different position than his primary position. I don't see why it wouldn't be worth nothing. If anyone thinks otherwise, please explain why. I proposed this over a week ago now, and seeing as how no one has bothered to leave a message against it, I'm adding DH back to the infobox, and if you disagree with it being in there, please explain why. I understand that DH was only his primary position for one season, but that's exactly it: For an entire season, he abandoned his primary position in favor of a different one, and I think that for that reason, it's worth noting in the infobox. Read the template documentation at Template:Infobox MLB player. It states "the position(s) primarily played by the player now (active players) or in their career (retired players). Jorge Posada's primary position was catcher not designated hitter. Mention it in the text, not in the infobox.--Yankees10 16:40, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
