I am sorry for being such a noob. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Len Moir (talkcontribs) 01:56, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Len,

I'm not sure what a noob is, but I'm guessing it's derogatory.  No problem.  There are pages and pages of rules and regulations on the Wiki.  You can start here WP:NOTE and here WP:CITE.  These will probably answer most of the questions you have at this time.  However, in a nutshell, you don't have to prove everything. The reader just needs enough information so that he can verify that what you are saying has a reasonable probability of being true.  We don't require web references, but they are the easiest to check.  When it comes to really heavy duty academic things, there are usually no web references, so we have to use judgement to decide whether the citation is plausible.  If something is important enough, the reader may actually go to the library and find out.  Since your article is not about what we call a BLP(biography of a living person), the requirements are not very strict, but we do need something to point at, and say, "See, it says right there."  I hope I have answered the question I think you are asking.  If I have not, or you have any other questions, contact me any time.  An email link is also on my talk page. If you have or use IRC online help is available 24/7 at #wikipedia-en-help.

Thanks for your effort,

Hello. Please note that A10 is only for articles recently created - the original article has been around since May 2011. It would also be wise to actually look up AFC candidates' articles to ensure they don't already exist. — Joseph Fox 18:33, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A10 was the closest I could find.  Is there a better code?  I was just helping Len Moir (talk) with his article.  When I finished, I found the other article, and decided they should be merged. :- ) DCS 02:06, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

G6 is a better criterion for history merges; see WP:CSD#G6. I maintain it would have been far more easy to point out that the other page already existed and that editing that one, rather than making one afresh, was the better option. — Joseph Fox 15:15, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dcshank,

I just read your reasons for not approving the article. This is the first time I've written encyclopedia entry, so not sure how to change it so it reads more like one. I don't see how it reads like an advertisment though, as this is a company that doesn't advertise. Most Entertainment companies don't. It's a distribution company that distributes films...I thought I explained that in very simple terms that didn't sound like an advertisement. I guess I was wrong. Please give me any pointers you can to fix it. I've been trying for weeks to no avail. First, it was because I didn't cite thrid party sources, which I corrected. I had it in the wrong format because I didn't know wikicode...but fixed that. So, please help me so I can get this up. MPI has been in other articles and I'm trying to get an article on the company to link to those. I thought I was writing from a neutral point of view, just stating facts. I cited third party sources like I was asked. I didn't use any material produced by the creator as you stated. The company is unique as it's one of the few that only distributes family and faith-based content worldwide. I was just going off of entries for a few similar companies and for some reason they were approved but mine wasn't and I pretty much emulated how those were written. I'm not sure whey those were but mine wasn't. Do you know why? Any help getting this approved is much appreciated.

Dear MissionPicsInt,

It is a very fine line between proving notability of a company and not advertising.  Each reviewer goes different ways on different days.  Most articles that are eventually deleted are for WP:COI conflict of interest or WP:ADVERT advertising.  I would expect that you will be asked shortly to change your user name also.  I have Wikified your article, rewrote a little bit, and approved it.  I hope you are happy with the results.  It is currently online at Mission Pictures International. :- ) DCS 03:46, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my edit summary. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 04:53, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Drmies,

Coincidentally, I finished up relinking all of the "other" Larry Crane's articles today..

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure exactly what you are asking/saying.  I you have no objections, I will delete the AfC Article.  The one in Main space looks good compared to what it did.   Have you contributed to the Main space article?  I see there is some overlap in edit dates and nicks are a bitch.  I think I will fix the citations on the Other Recordings and get rid of that ugly tmeplate. :- ) DCS 05:19, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The AfC article had a whole bunch of edits that (as far as I know should have been merged into the main space article: since it was deleted, those articles aren't in the history anymore, and I think that's not OK per WP:GFDL. In other words, there was no merge (at least no history merge) that I can see. "Merge" doesn't mean "copy and paste"--it means merging the edits made to both versions into one version. I'll ask the deleting administrator, just to make sure. Drmies (talk) 17:11, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
During the period 4 - 12 Dec the article and the AfC version were being developed in parallel, so a history merge would be messy and would give rise to the situation described at WP:HISTMERGE#A troublesome case. There are ways to maintain attribution without hist-merging, e.g. by restoring the AfC, moving it to a talk-sub-page of the article, and pointing to it from an edit summary; but I don't think that's necessary here, because the whole development of the AfC was by one author, Durkbrownlee (talk), from 4 to 8 Dec, and as far as I can see all the new material from the AfC version which is now in the article was added there by Durkbrownlee in three edits on 19 December. So, in my opinion, the content in the article which he originated is properly attributed to him by those edits, and we do not need to keep the AfC version. I'll check with him that he is happy. Thanks for the welcome, even if I have been here for awhile.  Interesting project to me, since I have spent months traveling all over the US with some 40 states under my belt.  I'm kind of in hibernation right now.  I was getting addicted, now I'm disillusioned with the whole place.  Too much chaos.  I either have to learn to accept it, try to change it, or get away from it. :- ) DCS 04:31, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to hear that... anything in particular? --Rschen7754 06:56, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Anything in particular?  I got into this mess trying to get an article approved though AfC.  I assumed that was the way to do it.  I started working there.  Seemed perfect, I have broad knowledge, have read the Britannica, a reasonably good command of the English language, etc.  A year ago AfC was getting 70 articles per day, now 300+, recently 500+.  Basically the Wiki is being spammed to death.  Between AfC and NPP, we don't have enough people to hold back the flood.  The WMF wants everything done by a person.  They keep nicking any BOT interference.  We have lost and will lose a lot of people through burn-out.  Ten to twenty of us against thousands?  I got tire of declining, "Jane Doe has big tits." twenty times a day in different variations and titles and authors.  So, I am waiting on the sidelines.  Some of us have been fighting, but...
Allies would be appreciated.  I'm just hanging out and doing a little fixing here and there now.  I really was neglecting food. :-p  Thanks, and take care. :- ) DCS 07:44, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to hear about that. I personally support limiting the creation of articles to those who are autoconfirmed, as did a lot of the community, but that got shut down by the WMF. I would suggest taking a break from AfC, maybe doing some content work on roads articles or some other area. I don't edit other areas that much, but at least in the roads projects we've been able to keep the drama to a minimum. --Rschen7754 09:54, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hato La Fé

Hello, Thank you for your comments. I know I need more help on the "Hato La Fe" article. Do you know how I can find some help with upgrading it? JoJaEpp (talk) 00:49, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

JoJaEpp,
My comment was simply that you need more context.  You are familiar with the articles in the Wikipedia.  What you have written could be an introduction.  What I do when I want to write about something is to go searching for as much information that I can find.  I then take what I think is the best of everything I have collected, and then start writing a story about it.  You only have one short reference.  I am sure there is much more information through Google or other search engines for you to read.  Please also read some of WP:BETTER.
Thanks for your effort, :- ) DCS 01:06, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I searched Google and there was little of anything about Hato La Fe. If Google has almost nothing, where else could I find information? JoJaEpp (talk) 01:17, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are correct.  You may have picked a hard topic.  I have found much better articles by searching images on Google.  It seems good articles will have pictures.  You may have to go to the library, or if you can read Spanish try searching images of Hato La Fé, Guárico, Venezuela at http://www.google.es Good Luck :- ) DCS 01:38, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The Spanish Wiki needs your help also.  The only articles there are:  here and here :- ) DCS 01:46, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

After my article had been sitting in AFC for so long, I thought I'd have to wait a week! Thank you for getting it listed sooner. Blurbzone (talk) 11:02, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2nd note for 2/18: Noted that you classified this page as "C". I'd really appreciate you upgrading the classification to a "B" for the following reasons: (a) the subject has never been biographed before (fact applicable to many persons considered for the related nation's wikiproject), so all material used has had to be researched; (b) the subject is important nationally and internationally; (c) the subject has an autobiography on the market, but its angle was very personal and may have played down on his multiple public roles, as well as significance quite a bit; and (d) the material contributed to wikipedia incorporates most of the published 3rd person material (media, govt., etc.) that could be found to build the profile.Blurbzone (talk) 14:52, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blurbzone,

I want you to believe I thought for a long time about rating your article as a Grade B.  However, the grade of an article at the Wikipedia is not just about the quality of an article, but many other things, one of them being time and stability.  See:WP:ASSESS.  Grade C at the Wiki does not mean average by any means.  In fact less than 2% of the total Wiki articles are grade C.  So upon acceptance your article is already in the 98 percentile.  Grade B would be about the 99.3 percentile.

From the point where an article is created, these numbers are probably at least 90% lower. Also the Wiki is not perfect, and you can always find example of articles that should probably be classified higher or lower.  Therefore you should consider your article exceptional to receive a Grade C at creation.  If I would have graded it higher, I and your article would have come under a considerable amount of scrutiny.  I hope this explanation satisfies you.  :- ) DCS 16:02, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW, 1938 - 1955

Thank you, Dcshank for your attention to the article. To me it's good history. I hope it will be "out there" soon. Slidhome (talk) 14:46, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested modification to Lincoln University School of Law

Somewhere in the history of the development of this article, I submitted a correction: This law school was not the only law school created by a lawsuit. Upon my reading the current article on Southern University School of Law, I discovered that it, too, was created as a result of a lawsuit. Thus, I suggest that the sentence in this proposed article be deleted and that the following information be inserted in its place: Lincoln University School of Law was one of two law schools in the United States which was created as a result of a lawsuit; the other, Southern University School of Law located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, also a historically Black school, was created as a result of a lawsuit which also alleged the unconstitutional denial to Black citizens of their right to a legal education. The citation could be that Wikipedia article or the source cited within that article. Thank you for your time. Slidhome (talk) 15:26, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lincoln University School of Law

I apologize; I mis-identified the Louisiana law school. It is the Southern University Law Center, and this is the title of the Wikipedia article. The first two sentences of that article read as follows: Southern University Law Center, a campus of the Southern University System, opened for instruction in September 1947. Its concept was born out of a response of a lawsuit by an African American resident, Charles J. Hatfield, III, seeking to attend law school at a state institution. On December 16, 1946, Louisiana State Board of Education took steps to establish a Law School for blacks at Southern University to be in operation for the 1947-1948 session. Slidhome (talk) 15:34, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please make whatever changes you would like to your article.  If you find some of the formatting confusing there is always help available here or any of the Helps.  Wikipedia can not be used as a source.  Thanks for your efforts.  :- ) DCS

I am embarrassed to report to you that there was yet one other law school created as a result of a lawsuit, -- it, too, alleging constitutional violations: In the article by Judith Farley, Law Schools at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, found at http://www.lawcrossing.com/article/2518/Law-Schools-at-Historically-Black-Colleges-and-Universities/#, she writes: "Texas Southern University. Texas Southern University was established in 1947 by the 50th Texas Legislature and was originally known as Texas State University for Negroes. In 1951, the name was changed to Texas Southern University. {Currently known as] The Thurgood Marshall School of Law, it came into existence as a result of a 1946 lawsuit brought by Heman M. Sweatt, who was denied admission to the University of Texas because he was black. Because of the separate-but-equal provision in the Texas Constitution, the state legislature provided for an "interim and separate law school for Negroes." During its first year, the law school was located in Austin, TX, but it was eventually moved to the new university campus in Houston." Perhaps the final change in that sentence in the proposed article should read: Lincoln University School of Law was one of several historically black law schools which were created as a result of lawsuits by African Americans which alleged the denial of constitutional rights to seek a legal education. Better yet, don't you think a category should be created with the following title: Historically Black Law Schools Created as a Result of a Lawsuit? The schools are Lincoln University School of Law, Southern University Law Center, and Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Slidhome (talk) 16:15, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Slidhome,

Can you fix the article the way you would like it to read?  When you are happy with it, you can click on the Submit link to resubmit it for approval.  As to a category, there is a list of existing categories here.  We can not create a category with one item in it. Do we have more than one article at this time?

Thanks,  :- ) DCS 17:14, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, I think it could be approved at any time; the only reason I hadn't already was that I had asked Slidhome to clarify the relationship between the universities. Other than that I think its good to go. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 17:31, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You get used to it ;) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 17:35, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You see, I am a neophyte at this. I got into the edit page and it looked Greek to me. I didn't even know where to start. But, let's assume I could get through editing. How do I "submit" the article for approval and then how does the article become a published part of Wikipedia? At this point, I would simply delete the entire reference to the law school being created by a lawsuit because, although it is noteworthy, it was not unique to this school. So I just think the entire piece of information should be dropped. What I am really saying, friends, is that I would do it if I knew how to do it [now I know how non-lawyers feel when they need legal help . . .]. Slidhome (talk) 04:55, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I've edited it so it now says "Thus, it is one of the very few law schools in the United States to have been established as the result of a lawsuit." I would image that is still fairly unique. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:44, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I just visited the "edit" page. Something, --it appeared to be a draft of the article, -- flashed in the box for like a half second and then disappeared. On one occasion, I simply scrolled over the original article and pasted it into the box and edited the article but for some reason, the editing changes did not remain even though I clicked the Save button. I saw where Dshank had done editing on some open box of a yellow color but I had no idea at what I was looking. Slidhome (talk) 05:11, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

2GreenDollars (new article)

Hey DC, thanks for taking the time to review article creation for "2GreenDollars". I've resubmitted it placing more online cites but as links are over 10 years old and theres been a buyout or two (fast multimedia-pinnacle-avid) and (isis-staging connections-???) information is also being eaten up online. Relevant content (specifics of invention and pioneering) is in a book written mid last year. Please consider that aspect if you can. I thinks theres a lot worse out there on wiki, so could you give this one a publishing for me? I think others who know more than me will contribute to it, so it will eventually become a featured article for wikiproject australia once it gets past stub stage. But it needs to get past stub stage first :) thanks again, alvin. Alvin M. (talk) 01:53, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
