Your question re Lon Chaney
Thanks for your question. Here is the reply that I made on my talk page. I am also posting it on the talk page for Lon Chaney in case it come up again.
- Yes I have seen this. All of the biographies written about him state Colorado Springs. The website maintained by his descendants states the same [1]. His parents met at the Colorado School for the Education of Mutes this later became The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind and it exists to this day.
- The spurious claim (sorry for the rude wording but that is the nicest thing that I can say about it) from Carroll states that his family moved from there directly to LA. Yet the theater in Colorado Springs is named for Chaney [2]. Indeed Chaney began his acting career in vaudeville at that theater. To the best of my knowledge Chaney's parents never moved to LA.
- As I have been researching this tonight I found quotations from Michael F. Blake's book Lon Chaney: The Man Behind the Thousand Faces here [3] It turns out that it was Lon's father Frank Chaney that was born in Carroll in 1852. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1877. Whoever made the post at the Carroll website was very sloppy (I'm sorry but that is the kindest word that I can use) in their research. How they could ignore all of the biographies is beyond me. Who knows what it would take to get them to correct their info in regards to Ohio's connection to the Chaney family. Mistakes like this occurred before "the web" but they seem to happen faster because of it. That is why one should never stop their research with just one article/book/biography or website. - Thanks for taking the time to contact them. This sounds too phony to me. I think that at least one of the biographies about Lon would have mentioned this if it were a fact. Perhaps we should apply wikipedia's rules to them. In other words unless they can provide a reliable source, other than their anecdotal recollection, to confirm this I think that we should ignore it. The site still claims that they moved to LA from Carroll which contradicts the message that you just received. I think (barring some amazing piece of evidence not available at this time) that they are just trying to gain a modicum of notability for their hamlet by linking themselves to the Chaney name. In spite of what I feel about this I don't think that their email to you would give any justification to change anything in our article. Thanks, again, for doing the legwork. - Without driving down there and wading through the records department I am fairly sure that LC's birth certificate states CSprings. I am well aware that visits lasted longer than a few days but births were usually registered ASAP and I doubt that the Chaney family would have waited even a few days just to register the birth back in their hometown. It sounds like this is a handed down from one generation to the next thing and that is just fraught with all sorts of problems. If you are interested in pursuing it you might try contacting Michael Blake who, interestingly, also works as a makeup artist in Hollywood. MarnetteD | Talk 20:58, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yet another followup. I am posting this quickly at a neighbors house as I am having modem problems - thus I may not be able to respond to anything that you add to my talk page until tomorrow. I am rewatching the excellent documentary (I can highly recommend it if you want to learn more about LC - especially how he was a superb actor beyond his horror film roles) mentioned here [4] and I wanted to give you a couple more items as food for thought. 1) It also makes no mention of Carroll as a birthplace. 2) His parents were teachers at the School for Mutes mentioned above and, thus, it is highly unlikely they they were on vacation on or around April 1. 3) I have discovered that I was incorrect in an item above - his parents did move to LA but it wasn't until after he began his career in film so that makes it the late 19teens or 20's. I will try and update you further if I discover anything else of interest but, as I say, it may not be until late in the day tomorrow. MarnetteD | Talk 21:36, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed that you recently created a brief biographical article under this name. After reading it, I believe it fails the policies of WP:BIO and WP:BLP1E, and so isn't acceptable as an independent article; I've turned the page back into a redirect to Jamie Carragher. However, the story itself is worth noting somewhere, so I added a mention of it to Catholic sexual abuse scandal in Europe#Great Britain. Not every case like that one is notable enough for a separate article, but they can be mentioned in longer articles as I've done here. Hi, I am a little concerned that your contribution stating the number of victims as "known" has been edited to just 4. In view of Black's history and the various published statements of, both serving and retired, police officers relating to the A Fabb and G Tate cases amongst others: I feel your contribution stating "4 known" is more accurate. The article Jonathan Spelman has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Doesn't meet rugby nobility requirements as he hasn't played at the senior level yet. One court ruling and the scandal means he is notable for only one minor event [WP:ONEEVENT]]. Thus, doesn't meet the requirements for an article.
