Bombing Hitler's Dams is an episode on Nova(tv show)in which Dr.Hugh Hunt and some others attempt to recreate the bouncing bomb.
About
Dr. Hugh Hunt's goal is to create a small drum of concrete that can skip across water like the original bouncing bomb. Their "bouncing bomb" is not a live bomb and weighs less than a tenth of the original. The real bounding bomb's blueprints have been lost in a 1970's flood, so Hunt's "bomb" was created from scratch.
The pilot, Arnie, will fly a Douglus DC4 with the bomb attached along a river, when he reaches toy jungle floats set at a distance from a fake Mohne dam inside a trench, Arnie will drop his "bomb". If the bomb sucsessfully hits the fake Mohne dam, a real bomb will be detonated, and will blow apart the dam.
Trouble
There are lots of difficulties and problems in "bombing Hitlers dams". One fake bouncing bomb was unbalalanced, the fake Mohne dam leaked, the bomb does not spin for long enough, it is risky to have a DC4 flying very low(60 feet) with an 800 pound object, the splash of the bomb hitting the water could damage the DC4, and there is trouble telling how high th DC4 was flying, no altimeter is that accurate for telling hights below 100 feet.
