Segnosaurus (SEG-no-SAW-rus) was discovered in Mongolia in 1979 by Doctors A. Perle and R. Barsbold. The partial skeleton includes a lower jaw, pieces of the arms, legs, and vertebrae, and the complete hip structure. The jaw had sharp teeth for consuming meat in the back, while the from had no teeth at all. It is believed that the front was covered by a beak, like Oviraptor, and this makes it an interesting setup for a carnivore. The short arms each had three fingers that had very sharp claws.

Segnosaurus had an unusual hip girdle for a Saurischian (lizard hip) dinosaur. It, much like modern-day birds, had evolved to the ornithischian (bird hip) hip arrangement independently. Segnosaurus was a slow Theropod dinosaur that may have fed on fish.

Segnosaurus means "Slow reptile".
