Jake Rodkin is an American computer game designer, writer, and graphic designer. He was the co-project leader of Tales of Monkey Island, was the director of the fifth episode of Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, was the co-writer of Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent, was the co-leader and co-writer of Poker Night at the Inventory, and was the co-writer and co-project leader of Puzzle Agent 2.[1] He also co-designed the re-issue of the comic collection Sam & Max: Surfin' the Highway. He is also the co-project leader, along with Sean Vanaman, on the upcoming episodic The Walking Dead video game,[2] which is set in the world of The Walking Dead, but has new characters and a new storyline.[3] The game is notable for design decisions that make it a departure from the usual game by Telltale Games. Episodes can communicate with each other, meaning that "characters that die in one game... will stay dead [in future episodes]".[4]
Career
Jake Rodkin began his writing career writing for the gaming websites The International House of Mojo, Adventure Gamers, and Idle Thumbs.[5] He joined Telltale Games as a graphic designer. He now works there as a game designer, director, writer, and project leader.
Recognition
The re-issue of the comic collection Sam & Max: Surfin' the Highway, which Jake Rodkin co-designed with franchise creator Steve Purcell, was nominated for the Eisner Award for "Best Graphic Album-Reprint" in 2009.[6]
Tales of Monkey Island, for which Jake Rodkin was the season co-director, was nominated for "best artistic design" and won for the award for "biggest surprise" at IGN's Best of E3 2009 Awards.[7] After release, it won the PC Gamer 2009 adventure game of the year,[8] was nominated for the IGN best adventure game of the year for PC and Wii,[9][10] won the Adventure Gamers Best Adventure of 2009,[11] and was named the "Best Series Revival" by OC Weekly.[12]
Puzzle Agent 2, which was co-written by Jake Rodkin, was nominated for IGN's Best of E3 2011 Awards for "Best iPhone/iPad Game".[13]
