Nightwatching
Nightwatch (or Nightwatching) is a film written and directed by Peter Greenaway. It is in pre-production stage and is said to start filming in September 2006. [citation needed] The film should be completed by next spring, or by the time of Cannes Film Festival in May 2007. It will star Matthew Macfadyen and Emily Mortimer [1]
Plot Details
This film revolves around the making of Night Watch, the painter Rembrandt's most famous work.
Taken from the preview page on Inuit Pictures website:
- In 1642, at the height of his fame and wealth, Rembrandt, very reluctantly, is persuaded by his dying wife Saskia, to take on the commission of a large group portrait of the Amsterdam Militia, which will much later become known as The Nightwatch.
The film is being produced by Kees Kasander and co-produced by Jean Labadie's Bac Films, according to Variety. Labadie's company will handle the French distribution of the film.
According to co-producer Labadie, quoted from the same Variety article as above, this film will be "a return to the Greenaway of The Draughtsman's Contract"
Trivia
- Previously known as Nightwatching, but according to IMDb and a Variety article, it is now only referred to as Nightwatch. It should be noted, that on 15 April the title was again changed to Nightwatching on its IMDb page. [2]
- According to IMDb, the film's director of photography will be Reinier van Brummelen, who has shot Greenaway's latest film series, The Tulse Luper Suitcases, and also shared duties in 8½ Women with Sacha Vierny.
