Grid location Subscripts

For clarity the subscripts of the cartisean grid location, here marked x and y, used to denote the location on the grid where the original data is being taken from should be labeled something else. This is to avoid confusion with the actual values of x,y and z that would be used in the interpolation factors. Also it should be noted that the data at the discreet points is denoted with an r.

the line contains the undefined function . How should this function be defined? Does it matter?

Based on the above comment, I suppose that returns the sampled value at that point and is defined at . But, as stated above, that's not entirely clear from the article.
