Marky Ramone
Marc Bell (better known as Marky Ramone, born July 15 1956, in Brooklyn, New York) was the drummer for the punk rock group The Ramones. He joined after founding member Tommy Ramone quit in 1978 to concentrate on managing and producing the band.
Prior to joining The Ramones, Bell drummed for The Voidoids and Dust. Marky drummed for The Ramones until 1983, when he was replaced by Richie Ramone, although he then returned in 1987 and played with the band up until their retirement in 1996. He was on hiatus, because of his alcoholism, from 1983 to 1987.
Since playing in the Ramones he has produced two albums as Marky Ramone and the Intruders and has recently toured around the world for a 'Spoken Word' tour where he would speak about his time with the Ramones along with photos.
In September 2004, Marky released a Ramones DVD entitled Ramones: Raw which featured footage of the band while they went on tour all over the world. The footage is courtesy of Marky Ramone and his video library. The DVD was finished just in time to include commentary from Johnny Ramone, who passed away from prostate cancer on September 15, 2004. The commentary also includes Marky Ramone and producer John Cafiero.
His niece, Chessea, is married to CJ Ramone.
Marky Ramone played with several other artists:
- Richie Stotts of the Plasmatics
- Jerry Only of The Misfits and Dez Cadena of Black Flag in Only's M25 anniversary tour.
