Est omnino difficile iudicare inclusionis meritum cuiusdam rei in encyclopædia cum ratio sciendi quid populi referat incerta sit, sed nihilominus aliquid encyclopædiam dedecet

It is generally difficult to judge the worthiness of a particular topic for inclusion in an encyclopedia considering that there is no certain way to know what interests people, but some topics nevertheless are not fit for an encyclopedia.

This motto reflects the desire of these Wikipedians to be reluctant, but not entirely unwilling, to remove articles from Wikipedia.

Me

I'm a girl from Michigan, named Stephanie. I have a tendency of being interested in pretty much everything, which is how I came to be addicted to wikis. I've been a Wikipedian since June 2, 2005, and a Wikipedia administrator since September 6, 2005.

Most of my contributions here are copyedits. I do a lot of janitorial work, such as deletions, vandalism reversion, and blocking. I've also been creating images, which I upload to Commons.

I have founded a few other wikis, RC Wiki, LGBT info, and my personal wiki

zOmg!

  • I love this diff! [1]
  • I use IRC, and can be found under this nickname on Freenode.
  • mmmm tools[2].

My favorite vandals!

(Note to vandals: Please do not add yourself to this list)

Personal policies

Besides WP:TRI, I have a few personal Wikipedia policies I follow. These are my own and I don't expect anyone else to use them, although it would be nice as I think they're a good idea.

Primary & secondary school articles

Primary and secondary schools which have achieved national or regional fame for any significant reason (e.g. former school of famous individual, site of newsworthy event, etc.) deserve their own articles. School articles which, on their face, fail to reach this bar should be merged (with retained redirect) into community articles (e.g. village, town, city, school district, township, county, etc.). (A subarticle may be used if the community article would be made too large otherwise, titled, e.g. "Schools of Broward County, Florida" or "High schools of Louisville, Kentucky"). Those articles which are so deficient that they not only do not meet the above criterion, but for which it is impossible to determine a community to merge them with, may be deleted. --resistance is futile--

Bands

I hereby define a "notable musical group" as any group of performing musicians who (a) has published music reaching a significant audience (regional or larger), (b) has made a public performance before an noncaptive audience of at least 1,000 (school assembly performances do not count; neither do performances at athletic events unless televised outside the local viewing area of the performance), (c) has appeared on television (other than public access cable), (d) has won a contest or other award of a nontrivial nature, (e) is generally regarded as having pioneered or otherwise advanced a major genre of music, or (f) includes performers (or, in rare cases, composers) who are or were members of a different group meeting one or more of the foregoing criteria or who are otherwise famous (e.g. Keanu Reeves' band Dogstar). I will support deleting any article about a musical performing group where the article does not set forth how the group is notable by the above criteria.

11:43 < Ilyanep> Phroziac: noncaptive audience of at least 1,000 makes me think of a band tying up 1000 people and MAKING THEM LISTEN!

Section blanking

I am likely to interpret any edit (especially from an IP) that does not have an edit summary which removes an entire section (or more) of an article as revertible. My good faith doesn't go that far, I'm afraid. If you really intend to remove an entire section of an article, include an edit summary. You should be including edit summaries anyway, so this isn't really that onerous. I don't know if people do this by mistake or on purpose, but I think that large tracts of text should not be removed from Wikipedia without some sort of an explanation. Even "See talk page" is good enough for me.

Use of admin powers

Use talk pages. Block sparingly. Don't block without warning unless the situation really requires it. Use rollback for true vandalism only (e.g. blanking, spam, and nonsense). Don't use admin rights on articles you edit for content. Don't use admin rights against people you disagree with. Don't use admin rights in disputes that you are mediating, either. Always give good reasons with blocks, especially range blocks. This doesn't matter for obvious things, like "GAYNIGGER ON WHEELS". Blocks with bad reasons are subject to quick removal.

Curps

I think Curps' bot is useful. His disregard for the bot policy when creating it was a bad idea. But, he got away with it for long enough that he proved that it did more good than harm, so it doesn't really matter anymore. People should not violate WP:POINT by making a fuss over it.

Insignificant edits

I frown upon very insignificant edits, mostly disambiguations on talk pages, white space changes, stub sorting, and any changes that do not affect a page in any visible way. I would strongly prefer that people improve articles in useful ways, rather than make these types of edits.

Less importantly, I would prefer that minor spelling corrections and other polishing of an article be done after an article is significantly written. Often, these types of changes won't even make it into the finished product, it's a little like polishing a car before re-painting it. It makes it look nicer for the moment, but it doesn't do anything in the long run. And yes, I realize that I have done this many times. But, I don't now.

Template:Babel-9

Hi, I don't have a lot to say about myself, really. I was born in 1978, I'm from Sokndal, a small municipality in the county of Rogaland in Norway.

I am not very active on the Norwegian Wikipedias (Bokmål and Nynorsk). So far my only real contribution there is the article Arkadia - reisen til jordas indre (which is mostly a translation of Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea) and some images.

Most of my contributions are in areas of science fiction, fantasy and things computer related, seeing as those are my main interests. I also find science and history interesting, but I'm more of a reader than a contributor in those areas.

Stuff I have created

Not counting redirects, images, talkpages etc.

After registering

By far the most of my edits are "janitorial" though, fixing broken links, sorting stubs and categories, the occasional wikifying of new articles, sorting and tagging images and things of that nature.

As of 22 March 2006 my edit count is over 10700, of which over 4300 are in the article space (mostly minor edits), and over 2500 in Image: space. Add to that over 3800 deleted edits (mostly tagging images as {{no source}} or {{no license}} if they are missing required info and such). You can get a detailed count, or check your own here.

Ongoing projects

Lately I've been working mostly on cleaning out Category:Free use images, there is a staggering amount of images in that category that either lack the source or the license information required to justify this label. A fair number are also plainly mislabeled as they include license info that prohobit commercial use and things like that. I'm also ocationaly tagging a few dozen untagged images over at Wikipedia:Untagged images or deleting orphanded fair use images, or unsourced and unlicensed images that have been tagged for more than 7 days and such.

I've also started Wikipedia:Image copyright issues for dummies as I was getting weary of writing the same lengty messages over and over trying to explain the basics of copyright to uploaders (things like "free for personal use" != "public domain" and what not). Haven't spent too much time polishing it yet though.
