History

Originally, "Listapad" was conceived as a film festival of CIS and Baltic countries. As a rule those films which for some reason were not widely distributed but clearly illustrated the culture of different countries were selected.

That was the way the festival was held for the first time in November 1994. With time the festival grew, gained prestige and achieved international status in 2003. Then the films from Russia, Poland, USA, Iran, Serbia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, China and Japan were brought to Minsk.

Listapad 2010

In 2010, the festival appeared in a completely updated format.[1] The Festival competition program was as follows:

  • the main competition of feature films (12 films),
  • young directors film competition (9 debut films of directors from all over the world, including for the first time films from India, Peru, Venezuela, Spain, Uruguay),
  • documentary films competition (20 films),
  • young directors documentary films competition(12 films).

"Masakra,” the film by Belarusian director Andrei Kudinenko was presented in the main competition of feature films.

At the XVII MIFF Listapad, for the first time the winner was determined by the professional jury, not the viewers. It was made because viewers can’t see all the competition films, at best they get acquainted with 30% of the films, and this is biased. Before making a decision the professional jury is sure to see all the films.

Directorate of the Festival

  • Gennady Davydko – Chairman of the Festival
  • Angelika Krashevskaya – Festival Director
  • Igor Soukmanov – Program Director of Feature Programs
  • Irina Demyanova – Program Director of Documentary Programs
  • Kseniya Danina – Program Director of Children and Youth Festival Listapadzik
