Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 76.93.69.4 (talk) at 02:09, 12 May 2012 (Current requests for protection). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Full-protection Possible inappropriate edits from anonymous users, also a risk of adding false information to the page. 76.93.69.4 (talk) 02:09, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection Ongoing addition of unsourced informations by anonymous IPs promoting subject. Possible conflict of interest.Desildorf (talk) 01:57, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Continued addition of unsourced information from anonymous users. Paris1127 (talk) 01:38, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – NBA player LeBron James is rumored to have won the 2012 award. Official announced is scheduled for Saturday. To prevent crystal-balling, please semi-protect until Midnight (GMT) 13 May (i.e., next twenty-three hours). . —Bagumba (talk) 01:14, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection Disruptive-edits: Recently we've had possibly the same anonymous IP who's been inflating the certifications of some of the singles. The RIAA source provided on there doesn't support IP's changes.--Harout72 (talk) 00:53, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Extreme amounts of vandalism almost daily. It is constantly being reverted by people wanting to correct the vandalism, but then it is changed by the vandals very quickly.

Extend temporary semi-protection: Slow but substantial reverts of unwanted content by registered users. Although "semi-protection" blocks only IP users and newcomers from editing this page, reverts of recent edits by registered users implies that unprotecting this article is too soon. --George Ho (talk) 23:27, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Disruptive editing from IPs, constantly adding inflated sales figures, unsourced information and unexplained changes. Oz talk 22:37, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: As with other K-pop articles, IP editors continue to add unsourced material to the members section. The ongoing sockpuppetry by Ryanjay1996 only adds to the problem. — ξxplicit 22:30, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The page is currently experiencing a high amount of sudden vandalism from numerous IPs.--P.4.P. No. 1 (talk) 22:25, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – A long term pattern of minor false detail changes to personal life and defamatory allegations by a series of anon IPs is of concern. (talk) 22:15, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Courcelles 00:06, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Vast majority of edits in last months have been unsourced biographical information and attempts to add non-free-use images to the article. Geraldo Perez (talk) 22:05, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Courcelles 00:05, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. The page has recently received a wave of IP disrution. Backtable Speak to meconcerning my deeds. 22:03, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The page is subject to continuous vandalism from numerous IPs, due to the high visibility and popularity of the page. HCA (talk) 21:52, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Redirect created per AfD closure at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spring Breakers (film). Anons are recreating article usually also adding WP:COPYVIO plot summaries and bogus cast. AfD merged key referenced info to redirect target and article re-creations are adding nothing beyond what is there. Re-creation of a AfD redirected article should need autoconfirmed rights as is needed for new article creation. --Geraldo Perez (talk) 21:57, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Article subject died last night on May 10 per all reliable sources. Multiple IPs are changing the date of death to today (May 11), the date it was reported. 72Dino (talk) 21:31, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: IP user keeps changing the professional record of Amir Khan to something incorrect. --Jimbo[online] 17:49, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP's constantly changing and editing the timelines and lists of members with no discussion or reasoning. Ridernyc (talk) 16:43, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Rumors circulating that subject may be significantly ill/dead. Requesting standard 72 hour Semi for death rumor protection. Hasteur (talk) 16:29, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism from IPs. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 15:24, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Persistent continuous vandalism from IP users, even after expiration of previous block. NoNews! 14:31, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism from IP users. The channels that are not available on the platform are consistently listed on the page by some vandal. User:n0rm4nch3w (talk2me) 13:50, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism from IP users. rahul (talk2me) 10:50, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Perennial target of tendentious editing by COI members. It looks like a previously banned sockpuppet (User:Pena129) is back, making the exact same edits he made a few months ago but now editing as an IP. Chubbles (talk) 02:47, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection Persistent vandalism by 99.238.53.33 (SEO purposes) Panamausa 01:05, May 11 2012 (UTC)

Bit more concerned about Panamausa there, seems to have been fighting to keep a couple of spamlinks in the ELs. tutterMouse (talk) 09:46, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
99.238.53.33 constantly remove all the link ref and add a commercial page Panamausa 14:20, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Maybe but your hands aren't clean in this by reverting to include two spam links, one of which isn't too different from what you've been reverting. tutterMouse (talk) 14:32, 11 May 2012 (UTC) ::: I tried to revert it to how was before and keeping informative ones, yes I added a new one that in my understanding its official from the company, my hands are clean. If you check the user talk page of 99.238.53.33 you will see other complaints regarding the same behavior. Panamausa[reply]

Semi-protection This article has been vandalized throughout the day, first by 63.235.178.201, then by Pooflinger999 (whose username has now been permanently blocked) then by 67.0.126.145. All three vandals have a suspiciously similar modus operandi, inserting very similar disruptive content and doing so in numerous small edits that are a pain in the crude metaphor to revert. --Yaush (talk) 22:50, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Still at it this morning, now from address 63.235.178.203. --Yaush (talk) 14:57, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism by multiple accounts. 99.136.254.195 (talk) 21:51, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Nangerbat. Darkness Shines (talk) 20:41, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection:Persistent vandalism. HARSH ▌TALK ▌ 16:41, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite Temporary semi-protection: For some reason numerous IPs have chosen today to come and push nationalist claims on this rock, even going as far as to completely blank information on other's claims. As it just seems to be today, I don't think an indefinite is needed at this point. CMD (talk) 14:02, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • I think indefinite is definitely needed, until tensions die down. I'm referring to current events here, the shoal is all over the news. Furthermore, a 3-week temporary semi-protection was lifted only recently, which shows that 3 weeks clearly wasn't enough. The article history is a mess, and the talkpage explains the recent events going on and why edit wars are going on. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 14:12, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I somehow didn't connect the recent new events with this. Benlisquare is right, with actual ships facing off in the sea, an indefinite would definitely be extremely useful. CMD (talk) 14:25, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • For a month, or for three months? If a protection is in fact and indeed warranted and called for, then, yes; but for indefinitely? No. — KC9TV 11:27, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Constant genre changes (which are sourced and people that come in and see the page don't seem to get this) which will probably never end. If you don't think an indefinite is suited, then at least protect this for a long enough time. I'm sick of reverting removals of sourced content. GunMetal Angel 13:51, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP vandal keep coming and reverting the page against consensus. . The Determinator p t c 13:10, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Permanent semi-protection: High level of vandalism, terrible usage of grammar.. Please see protection requests for "Original Vampires" (below) and "List of The Vampire Diaries characters" (below) for further explanation as to why I'm requesting semi-protection of this page. Writerchic99 (talk) 01:06, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite protection: A 2 years-old redirect of a practically unreferenced Wikia-style article on an absolutely un-notable fictional character being now repeatedly reverted by 86.164.61.33 (possibly "IceFrog" himself). So redirect + protection, please. Thank you. --Niemti (talk) 20:14, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Protected since March 1 due to SPA editing. Is this permanently protected? Says to see admin's talk page, but I can find no reasoning there. Gobōnobo + c 09:09, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Protection runs until 8 November. tutterMouse (talk) 10:03, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
