What to Expect When You're Expecting is an upcoming 2012 American romantic comedy film directed by Kirk Jones from a screenplay by Shauna Cross and Heather Hach and based on the book of the same name. It stars an ensemble cast of Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Matthew Morrison, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Kendrick, Brooklyn Decker, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rodrigo Santoro, Rob Huebel, Thomas Lennon, Chace Crawford, with Dennis Quaid, and Chris Rock. The film also features many celebrity cameos including Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole, the Black Eyed Peas member Taboo, and former The Hills star Whitney Port. The film is scheduled to be released on May 18, 2012.[2]

Premise

The story follows five couples in the Atlanta area who "suffer the many joys of the childbirth process".[3]

  • Jennifer Lopez as Holly, a woman who adopts a baby from abroad with her husband after difficulty conceiving[4]
  • Cameron Diaz as Jules, an aspiring singer[5] and a host to a weight-loss fitness show[3]
  • Matthew Morrison as Evan, who teams with Jules on a celebrity dance show[2]
  • Rodrigo Santoro as Alex, Holly's husband who's in music business and is not ready to have a child[6]
  • Wendi McLendon-Covey as Kara, Holly's co-worker and friend[7]
  • Joe Manganiello as Davis[8]
  • Elizabeth Banks as Wendy, an author and owner of The Breast Choice boutique who is militant in her beliefs about what makes a good mother until she gets pregnant for the first time[9]
  • Rebel Wilson as Janice, an employee at Banks' character's store[10]
  • Ben Falcone as Colin, Banks' character's husband and son of Ramsey[11]
  • Brooklyn Decker as Skyler, the wife of a much older man named Ramsey[12]
  • Dennis Quaid as Ramsey,[13] the husband of Decker's character
  • Rob Huebel as Gale, a new parent who adjusts to "fatherdom" by bonding with other dads in a city park-based group that is part play group, part secret society[14]
  • Chris Rock as Vic, the head of a group of expectant fathers who lectures them on what it's really like to have a baby and become a father[15]
  • Thomas Lennon plays a father who joins Vic's "dude group"[16]
  • Amir Talai plays Patel, a father who joins Vic's "dude group"
  • Anna Kendrick as Rosie, who reunites with an old flame and fellow food-truck owner and becomes pregnant[12]
  • Chace Crawford as Marco, who reunites with an attractive old flame (Rosie) after a turf war between their respective food trucks[17]
  • Mimi Gianopulos as Molly, Rosie's funny roommate who comforts and supports her[18]
  • Génesis Rodríguez as Claire, Rosie's roommate[19]
  • Kim Fields plays a social worker who helps out a couple with an adoption[20]
  • Cheryl Cole has cameo as TV dance talent show judge[5]
  • Jaime Luis Gómez has cameo as TV dance talent show judge[5]

What to Expect When You're Expecting is based on the book of the same name written by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel; the screenplay was adapted by Heather Hach and re-written by Shauna Cross. Kirk Jones directed the film.[13] Lionsgate acquired the worldwide distribution rights from Phoenix Pictures on January 14, 2010.[22]

On July 9, 2011 an open casting call took place for pregnant women and Ethiopians.[23] The film began principal photography in Atlanta on July 19, 2011.[24] On July 26, production filmed in Midtown on Peachtree Street near High Museum and in Piedmont Park.[25]
