Kamyanets-Podilsky Ivan Ohienko National University is a higher educational establishment of the 4th level of accreditation in Kamyanets-Podilsky (Ukraine).
History
The university was founded on October 22, 1918, when the Hetman of Ukraine Pavlo Skoropadsky signed the Law on the establishment of Kamyanets-Podilsky State Ukrainian University. The first rector of the university became a famous scientist and linguist, professor Ivan Ohienko. The university consisted of five faculties: the Faculty of History and Philology, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Agriculture [1]. The defeat of Ukrainian national liberation movement in the autumn of 1920 determined the fate of the university: at first, it was reorganized into the Academy of Theoretical Knowledge, but on February 2, 1921 - into the Institute for Theoretical Sciences, which included three autonomous institutions: Physics and Mathematics, the Humanities and Agricultural Sciences. On February 26, 1921 the Institute for Theoretical Sciences was reorganized into two separate schools - the Institute of Public Education and Agricultural Institute. During the 30's and 40's the Institute of Public Education was reorganized three times, in particular, in 1930, when it was reorganized into the Institute of Social Education, in 1933-1934 years – into Pedagogical Institute and in 1939 - into the Institute of Teachers. Since 1948-1949 school year according to the decision of the Council of Ministers of the USSR Kamyanets-Podilsky Institute of Teachers was reorganized into Pedagogical Institute Кам'янець-Подільський державний університет: минуле і сьогодення. — Кам'янець-Подільський: Оіюм, 2003. — 408 с. According to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “About the creation of Kamyanets-Podilsky State Pedagogical University" from June 28, 1997 № 628 Kamyanets-Podilsky State Pedagogical University was founded on the basis of Pedagogical Institute. Taking into consideration the importance of national educational tradition in the development of state, under the authority of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “About creation of Kamyanets-Podilsky State University” from March 17, 2003 № 148-r Kamyanets-Podilsky State University was created on the basis of Kamyanets-Podilsky State Pedagogical University. In accordance to the decree of the President of Ukraine “About conferring the status of National University to Kamyanets-Podilsky State University” from January 22, 2008 № 44/2008, due to the nationwide and international recognition of university's activities and its great contributions to the development of national education and science, Kamyanets-Podilsky State University was conferred the status of national university [3]. Under the authority of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “About naming of Kamyanets-Podilsky National University after Ivan Ohienko” from August 20, 2008 № 1119-r Kamyanets-Podilsky National University was named after Ivan Ohienko.
The University Activity
File:Magisters of Kamyanets-Podilsky Ivan Ohienko National University During its existence the university has trained about 60,000 professionals for education and other sectors of national economy, more than 350 highly qualified specialists – PhDs and Candidates of Science. Thousands of students have become experts in the pedagogical sphere, scholars,known for its scientific achievements both in Ukraine and abroad. Many of them occupy professorial positions in many other universities of the country,work in government and are outstanding public figures etc. Among them, the director of NAS Institute of History of Ukraine, Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine, laureate of State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology V.A. Smoliy;Director of the Institute for Nuclear Research NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Sciences, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored worker of science of the Ukrainian SSR, laureate of State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology I.M. Vishnevsky; professor in the Department of Differential and Integral Equations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Sciences, professor, laureate of State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology D.I. Martynyuk; poet and fabulist M.P. Godovanets, writer L.D. Dmyterko; the senior scientific co-worker of the literary education laboratory of the Institute of Pedagogy ofNational Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, professor, the corresponding member of National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine N.J. Voloshyna; rector of Kamyanets-Podilsky Ivan Ohienko National University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor, academician of the Academy of Sciences for Higher Education of Ukraine O.M.Zavalnyuk and others [4]. The university has strong sporting achievements. Thus, from 2007 to 2011 the students of ouruniversity have won 509 awards at the championships and universiades of Ukraine and 135 medals at the Olympic Games, World and EuropeanChampionships. In 2008 and 2010 the university took the first place in the First and the Second Sports games of Ukraine among higher education institutions of the III-IV accreditation level in the second category, including universities, with the Faculty or Institute of Physical Education and Sport, and the 4th place among all universities participating in the competitions. The university students achieved significant progress in the competition of the XXVI World Summer Universiade: they won 5 silver and 1 bronze medals and took the 5th place among the Ukrainian universities of the III-IV accreditation levels. A great success had also artists of the university. In particular, the assistant of the Department of Fine and Decorative Applied Arts and Restoration of Artworks S.I. Klyapetura won the Grand Prix at the international ice sculpture festival in Quebec and was awarded a gold medal at the international festival of ice sculptures “Town on ice 2010”; the student of the Pedagogical Faculty O.Voznyuk has become a laureate of the First (2008) and the Third premiums (2010) of th eNational Vocal Competition named after Oksana Petrusenko and was awarded the third prize at the IV music competition “Solosing” of the X Kyiv International Documentary Film Festival “Kinolitopys-2011”; the student of the Pedagogical Faculty O.Krochmal has become a laureate of the first premium of the same competition, etc [5].
