Jim Gannon
Jim Gannon, (born September 7 1968), is an Irish football manager and former player. He was appointed manager of Stockport County on January 17 2006, having served as caretaker-manager since the departure of Chris Turner on December 27 2005.
Gannon received his start in higher level football from the Irish club Dundalk F.C.. In April 1989 Gannon was transferred from Dundalk to English team Sheffield United and after 12 months he moved to Stockport County where he had a distinguished ten year career. His 479 club appearances puts him in third spot in Stockport’s all time appearance list and his 65 goals are 9th in their scoring records.
Was and still is known as 'The Ghost', as he had the uncanny knack of ghosting in on set-pieces and arriving late at the backpost to score valuable goals. He has received two distinctive honours from the club’s supporters—elected to the Stockport Hall of Fame and as Honorary Vice President of the Hatters Independent Supporters Club.
On his return to Ireland he had a number of successful years with Shelbourne before his appointment as Dundalk manager in June 2004. On 14 November 2005, Gannon confirmed his resignation from Dundalk. Gannon's position had been called into question after the club's vice-chairman Tom Baldwin and chief executive Sean Connolly both left the club, both of which were supporters of Gannon as manager.
On 17th January 2006, after a short stint as caretaker manager, Jim Gannon was announced as the permanent manager of Stockport County following the departure of Chris Turner.
