RDB (an acronym for Rhythm, Dhol, Bass) is a band, formed by three British born brothers who released their first offering in 2001. The trio of producers/singers/musicians/DJs/label execs and production team! consisted of Kuly, Manj and Surj (short for Kuldeep, Manjeet and Surjeet Ral) who blended western genres with traditional Punjabi beats and vocals. The trio were born and based in the UK. [1] [2]
Background
The brothers musical journey began with singing at the gurudwara. “We used to assist our father in performing in front of the community at our local gurudwara, playing the harmonium and the tabla. This gave us a great understanding of our musical creativity and we mixed this with our passion for technology and started experimenting with sounds.”
Career
In 2003 RDB won "Best Club DJ Bhangra" at UK Asian Music Awards.[3]
The group is on the Brampton Walk of Fame.
Personal Life
RDB's Kuly passed away on 22nd May 2012 while receiving treatment at a specialised clinic in Houston for a Brain Tumor. Kuly was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2011 and underwent radio and chemotherapy.
