"Be My Baby"
Song

"Be My Baby" is a song by South Korean girl group Wonder Girls. It was produced by Park Jin-young. It is the lead song for the group's second full-length album Wonder World and was released to online music sites on November 7, 2011. The song was also featured on their first TV movie, "The Wonder Girls", which aired on TeenNick.

Background

Following the photo teasers released leading up to the group's album release, teaser videos were uploaded on their official Youtube channel on November 1, 2011. The teaser showed the five members with their new, edgy looks, and a set with a tough, rock-style concept, as well as individual shots of each of the members then ending with the message "R U READY?". In just one day, the video received over 560,000 hits and on the morning of November 2, the video reached #1 on the "Most Discussed Video" list. The song was finally revealed to be Wonder World's title track after the second teaser was uploaded on November 3rd.

Composition

According to the members of the group, it is the kind of song that everyone can enjoy. The melody was said to be "easy on the ears" just like their past hit songs “Tell Me”, “So Hot”, and “Nobody”, while the tempo is upbeat and the lyrics are easy to sing along to.[1]

Music video

Background

The teaser for the music video was uploaded on the group's YouTube channel on November 3rd. At the beginning of the teaser, very little footage from the music video was shown but instead featured more additional scenes of the members previously seen on the first teaser which was for the album. An rock-electronica like music can also be heard playing with a voice echoing "Be my...". As the teaser progresses, the music begins to speed up and snippets of the group as they appear in the actual music video finally appear. Near the end, a 3-second clip from the song can be heard along with the group's new choreography. The video ends with the title track being displayed in transparent letters while the group poses as they appear on the music video. The music video eventually premiered on November 7, in order to coincide with Wonder World's release. In 48 hours after being uploaded, the music video just garnered over 2 million views. By November 9, it had drawn more than 4 million views which was twice the number.[2] As of June 2012, the video has gained over 20 million views.

The music video was choreographed by Jonté Moaning, who previously worked with American R&B artist Beyoncé for her song "Freakum Dress" and has served as a back-up dancer for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)".[3]
